Tuesday Morning

.
My last day alone in Provincetown. Liz will arrive from Connecticut, then JB.
.
My last morning alone, Stella and I walking a long block or two past an amazing abundant apple tree, past the cemetery where the captains and fishermen and their wives and babies are buried, as far back as the 1700's;
.
.
.
.
.
.
Past these small houses and even smaller yards in Ptown where a single dahlia is cause for celebration;
.
.
I drop Stella back home and head 'downtown', a comical term in this town where the main street runs 3 or 4 miles, from the east end to the west end, and if you walk it, you feel like you've been plucked into Appreciationville.
.
.
I am at the Post Office. How old is this building?
.
.
How comfortingly old it is. Majestic, even.
.
I mail silly postcards to my children clients. Ny first supervisor recommended that to me for when I am away and the kids may not be understand for sure that I am coming back. So I send a postcard that says 'see you soon."
.
.
JB and I had one of these post office boxes when we lived here. It was one of my favorite things to do:
meander to pick up the mail.
.
.
It's good to be back here. I haven't walked the streets too much yet. I recovered from my hot water plumbing problem and found myself with the symptoms of a pain-in-the ass cold. I lost a day lying on the couch saying WTF? But I wrote in between and how sorry could I feel for myself, really? I have the time to have a cold. I love where I am. No reason to complain.
.
.
I visit 'her' every time. She lies outside of the A-House, a gay men's bar where anyone can go to dance, and what fun it is. I've only been twice but the strobe lights and the music and so many people having an unabashed time of it: wicked fun!
.
.
I walk back home
.
.
.
When Liz arrives, I read some of my snippets to her, we eat dinner at Cafe Heaven where I have fresh scallops from a fishing boat the next town over, and Liz and I get one good hug from the waiter and we laugh with the guy sitting beside us;
.
We meet an unlikely and thoroughly interesting woman from New Orleans who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina and moved to Provincetown five years ago;
.
We check out a couple of shops--Liz has favorites;
.
We have a "visitation" in the Fudge Shop where I show Liz those home made giant peanut butter cups. ( I will have at least one before I leave);
.
We sit on the brick steps of Spiritus Pizza and watch the world, in all its ages, stroll on by. I call Lo and it is good to hear her voice.
.
JB arrives at midnight. We catch up with three days of show-and-tell. JB has framed two of her collages and they are stunning. She will offer them for sale at the YART in October. She is quietly delighted by the cooing responses from Liz and me.
.
A good day. A very good day.
.
The heart is thankful today.
.
