.
Some years back my mother flew to Florida with JB and me. It was only the second time she had been in an airplane. She kept staring out the window, silent, staring down at the clouds below, until she finally said, with all the wonder she could muster, "I never knew there were two skies."
.
She meant it. It was one of those moments. Almost everyone sitting around and near us turned and smiled. I can't remember if I corrected her or not. I think I just smiled too.
I remember flying for the first time as a child. I looked out at a very similar scene to this beautiful photo. I thought I was seeing a glimpse of heavens outer suburbs. I still think that sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMind you ... at the same age I believed thunder was caused by crashing clouds ... I was surprised to discover the truth ... aged 30 something ... slow learner, me? Are you sure you have space for such a dense heart sister? :) xx Jos
There is only two skies? I always thought there were limitless horizons.
ReplyDeleteJust before sunrise, perhaps?
ReplyDeletejos, these are not dense, they are adorable. i hope you still have some beliefts like that, and i'll bet you do! space for you, heart sister? you bet! xo
ReplyDeletemark, hmmm........
snowbrush, just after sunset. xo
It looks pre-dawn. I love the periwinkle clouds and the one stripe of orange glow.
ReplyDeleteI always get a window seat so I don't miss a thing.
I love what your mom said. I'd have run with it and had a whole conversation about it.
I hate to fly, honestly, but once I'm up there with my head in the clouds I really get into it. And I like the perspective it gives me on life. We're mere specks in this big old place. It usually reminds me not to sweat the small stuff.
I need that tune-up every now and then ;)
Happy Sunday my friend! I'm on my second cup.
xoxo
Lo
lo, sounds like you're having an introspective morning along with your second cup of coffee. i can picture you in your fabulous studio. i am so happy for you! i am just about to have my second cup of coffee and i am doing my work reports: 20 of them. not as much fun as writing holiday cards. later, aligator, xoxo
ReplyDeleteThere is something so peaceful about being above the clouds, and I agree with your Mum it is another sky.
ReplyDeletexx
How beautiful is that. I am always blown away by the clear sky above the clouds. It is two skies and perhaps many more if we flew that high. xoxo
ReplyDeletei too remember my shock the first time i flew above the clouds, almost surreal. your mom sounds so fabulous, would love to meet her.
ReplyDeleteI love your mom's little nuggets.
ReplyDeletefirebyrd, i know, like you all of a sudden understand things...at least that's what it's like for me.
ReplyDeleteannie, yeah, really, who's to say?
:)
joss, my Mom is a true doll.
mim, i love her nuggets too. that's an apt word for many of the things she says. xo
Your mother is a doll and please wish her a messy christmas.
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
It certainly seems that way. The one you see from above and the other from below.
ReplyDeleteyour mom sounds so smart and creative. must be where your creativity came from. Clouds are amazing, from both sides. (A la Joni Mitchell)
ReplyDeleteI love what your Mom said-it says so much about how perspective can change in an instant.
ReplyDeleterenee, come here please: let me hug you. :)
ReplyDeletebaino, as above, so below.... xo
suki, 'it's illusions i recall'... :)
debra kay, your comment reminds me of alice in wonderland! xo
I like your Mom stories.
ReplyDeleteThat is the sweetiest thought. And she is right when you get up there you feel as if its another whole new sky.
