The Company We Keep.....

Lo, this post is for you ♥
.
Many times I have spent some part of Thanksgiving with two very good friends who live mid way up a mountain in Vermont.
.
This year JB & I arrived just before the loveliest snow began, the first of the season for me.
.
.

.
My friends live in an old and run down house that they have been working on for more years than they or I can count. The barn is barely standing upright.
.
But something is different this year:
.
.
.
My friend has become a SHEPARD: to twelve sheep he is madly in love with.
.
And they, who he tells me are Icelandic and Jacob sheep, love him back.
.
Want to meet some of them?
.
.

.
And look who else thoroughly enjoyed
making their acquaintance....
.
Love,
kj

  6. caroline, it was the first snow and i was only partially prepared. i had to borrow extra socks. maybe because i don't usually spend time in a barn with sheep at night :)

jos, i think stella wanted to (slowly) get to the other side of the wire fence. did you ever see sheep disperse when they are even a tiny bit frightened? it looked just like cartoon. and jos, yes. YES! ♥

mark, let's be honest: a turkey was just as bad. :(

mim, your card was on the refrigerator!!! i couldn't believe it, and i totally loved the serendipity of that. xoxo oh and please please draw away. i can supply most of their names if that is desired :)

lo, you are most totally welcomed. ♥

    lo,

  9. SNOW!!!!!!! You know, I am one of THOSE people who love it... When it's still, the silence lays over one like a blanket of peace... I love to try and catch snowflakes on my tongue! Even when it is "blizzarding" away... I like the sound of the windy-roar.... (of course, I want to be inside, with a roaring fire and a cup of cocoa......)

SHEEP!!!! I love them too....always have....love their 'baahas" and "bleats"...love their faces...love their wooly coats. How wonderful for your friends to have these gorgeous sheep!

STELLA!!!!! How wonderful to see her up and about, exploring, making new friends! She has really had a breakout year!!!!

What a lovely few days...(even if you did need extra socks)!

Ooohh...."Walking Man" is too much at times!!!!! Baaaaaaaahhhh!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  18. wrobin, i can feel your festivity from here! i am sooooo glad about that. i can just see you chasing after snowflakes with your tongue far out, like manny ramirez in left field. and yes mr walking man is a total quite intelligent and insightful IMP!

annie, it is a beautiful place to live, but you have to be willing to chop the wood build the fire feed the sheep blow the snow, every day. it was a very nice weekend, a wonderful thanks-giving dinner. i hope yours was too.

lori, you know i thought of you. ♥

lynn, as i understand it, they are designer sheep! the wool is gorgeous, BUT my friends have plenty of it and neither of them spins.

  19. cheers to you too stellan. i am so glad to see you here! take it easy and keep that hot chocolate nearby for a time. ♥ to you too.

budh.aaah, YES, they were smiling! i am so glad you saw that too. they are very HAPPY sheep. my friend loves them and scratches them and hugs them and gives them good hay and i can tell they love him back.

hells, those eyes are indeed different, eh? they are adorable. they all moved together when startled. at first they backed away from stella but not for long. and stella, who chases cats with fresh adrenalin, did not intend to chase them, just sniff and a little kiss. :)

hi pattee, they did seem magical. especially with that crystal snow falling from above ♥

suki, in this part of vermont, it snows one way or another almost every day. bucolic, the whole area is always bucolic.

  20. oooohhhh. {sigh}

it's just so peaceful. i LOVE old barns. the snow just turns it all serene and utopia like.....

(from where i sit in florida anyway)

Could you hug those creatures or would they ram you?

pretty pretty thanks for sharing :)

  21. The German shepherd is definitely not happy! We have one, and she firmly holds her ground, too. The shots of outdoors in the quiet snow are beautiful.

  22. I couldn't wait to come back, to gaze at these sheep snow photos some more. My gosh kj, it looks like a dream. I can imagine it's alot of work to live in the snow like this, but for a 3rd generation californian brought up on the sand these photos are romantic, hypnotizing, gorgeous.

You really did good, I love them!

Now i really HAVE to learn to spin, icelandic wool!! yipes!

    xoxo lori

  23. roo, that is a good question and i kind of know the answer because i asked it too! yes, they can ram, esp from behind. these 12 never have and most wouldn't because my friend rudi successfully gained their friendship, but he told me of a neighbor who was viciously rammed from behind while he was bent over. he killed that sheep because he believed that could happen again and again. ♥ roo, you know i LOVE when you visit me.

margaret, the dog is my stella, and she actually IS happy. she is a mix of a hound and shepard, probably, but she was happy to sniff and kiss the sheep. there was no hint of aggression, though some of the sheep were scardy cats :)

sf, you share so much that is so beautiful on your blog that i am so happy to offer you a taste of snow and sheep in vermont. i can only imagine what your deft eye and camera would have captured. ♥

  24. oh and lori, any time you want that icelandic wool, i'm pretty sure that can be arranged ♥
maybe you could start with spin dancing first.... :)
