Days

Dear All:  (I stole this greeting from a FB friend just today)   :^)

1. I am indeed writing a novel. I try to write at least an hour a day. I'm excited by it. Christine the mother is my favorite character. She has spunk. I am trying to THINK about what I want this story to be, rather than just write and see where the story lands.  Writing is a lot harder than it looks. But sometimes when you write you just glide….

2. I am a little obsessed about these kids really knowing me. I see them and their parents maybe twice a month.  Is that enough? I'm not sure. This is not a good thing to be insecure about. :^(

3. It's death by chocolate followed by a drunken brawl.

 4. Provincetown is at the very tip of this. At the very very end. Our place is rented out most of the summer. Janet and I have a week there starting Sunday. Turns out it is hard to rent the house because we worry about it. I hope every one there this summer enjoys good energy and happy times.  Starting with the renters there now. Not necessarily reflective of the folks before them...

5. So not being in Provincetown, I am in Western Massachusetts at a time when the growing season is a joy. Now there are fresh strawberries; next come the blueberries and then the peaches and corn and then tomatoes and summer squash. The farm stand is just down the street. This photo is the neighboring small for-real-quaint town of Williamsburg. My favorite is that neon gas station sign. It's old.

 6. I'm not blogging as much because of Facebook. For example, I already posted this photo of the right side of my house on Facebook. I made a comment about those glow-in-the dark stones not glowing in the dark. I don't like that I've said the same thing in two places. And by loyalty and rights, I think the photo deserved to be on my beloved blog first. xo

 7. I had the boys for 31 hours, starting on Wednesday at noon and ending on Thursday at 7 at night. They/we bowled, slurped, rode, got wet, played ball, shopped, ate, colored, read, and chilled. We had a great time. I adore them. Their mom is my Jessica. See # 2 above for  extra insight.

8. There will probably come a time when JB and I will live in Provincetown and not here; all the more reason why I just love looking out at the birds in our birdbath. There are two chunky robins that just splash themselves silly. I slow to a crawl when I watch them. It is very nice.

This is a summary of my last few weeks. I've also returned to work for a time. All in all I'm doing okay.  Not to say I don't ponder my life. How about you?

love

  1. It all sounds so wonderful. And I'm glad to see you having so much fun with your grandchildren. We get ours about twice a week, on average.

I'm glad you're writing a novel. I'm writing a fiction story to, a "novel" idea for me. I've written six pages so far, keeping up with your "slow writer's process" chart at the top. And, yes, the main character in the story is a Bear. If I make it to page ten, I'll let you now. Meantime, best wishes with your writing.

    Blessings and Bear hugs, kj!

    1. Rob, I know you'll make it to page ten. I've learned to just write the first draft by just writing. Then I can get to the craft of writing, and by then I have an idea how to polish a story I want to tell

      Twice a week? Lucky you

  2. I have twice tried leaving a comment about how much I enjoyed this post, but complications with my tablet may have messed them up....

I love the way this post flows like a summertime chat between friends. Am so impressed that you are writing another book, and love your sharing tidbits the way you did here. xo

    1. Thanks, Lydia. So far I find myself researching the life and death of john Denver, aneurisms, and how to become a nun. This book will hopefully be weightier than my first. And of course that makes it more complicated. And, Christine sees poetry as a salve for challenges. Plenty of poems in this here book :-)

It's always nice to hear from you, Lydia xo

  5. 1.I loved the mother in your story just from the little tidbit you had shared earlier. I am happy that you are continuing to bring her to life.

    2. My kids only saw their (only) grandmother 3 or 4 weekends a year. I would have liked that to be more but, yes, it was enough. The love flowed both ways.

3.I thought perhaps the garden gnomes had won the war ; )

4.I don't know how you could own that PTown house and not keep it to yourselves all summer. Perhaps someday I'll be on your list of renters. I miss those seafood crepes at the Lobster Pot.

    5. I love farm stands but right now I am enjoying the bounty of my own garden.

    6. I do not understand the appeal of FaceBook, at all. But I know the I am the only person on the face of the planet that does not have a FaceBook page.

    7. Good on you for having the energy to do all that stuff. It is a worry of mine - that by the time I have grandchildren, I will be too stiff to enjoy them.

    8. Why do I not have bird bath? I need to get a bird bath. What do you do with it in winter?

I continue to work on getting healthy. Surgeries are all behind me now and it's time to get my life back on track. So far, so good but there are still a lot of areas that fell by the wayside during all the chaos. I am trying to choose very carefully what I want back in my life and what I don't want taking up my time.

    happy summer!

  7. Kj, I think 2 times a month is a lot! Maybe not as much as you want, but I only see my sweet little Nephew once a year as we live so far apart.
I do ponder my life and for the most part I love my days, I am so glad I am an artist!
I try to paint at least 3-4 hours a day and I am always working on my goal to being a full time artist, down to working 3 days a week. Have a fun week in P town. Happy 4Th. xoxo

  8. I'm sorry to learn of your drunken brawl, but you might at least have put blankets over your party guests. I can but hope that no one died of hypothermia or alcohol poisoning.

  9. About your grandkids knowing you:
I wrote my memoir with just that thought, leaving shards behind through which they might know me a little more closely. I'm contented that I got to love them deeply in my lifetime.

  10. I think twice a month is still pretty great - your grandkids will indeed know you and have lots of wonderful memories of this time.

  11. Writing is hard, my friend.

Wondering how you balance facebook and blogging. I've never joined facebook because I worry it is addictive and will eat away all my time that I need to savor for writing and occasionally reading. But many folks I know are on it so I feel out of touch sometimes.......but obviously not too much ;))

  12. Always fun to visit home here at your blog! Cichy's garage saved me on a few winter commutes between Hatfield and the Berkshires....hows work?
