I am finally back in Provincetown. With JB and Chase. In our new sweet house. I'm walking with canes. But walking better. And the ocean is everywhere.
JB and I are here for one week and a day or two. We got an offer on our condo and my surgery is behind us, so we are trying to get back to relaxing--not always easy. Boy the world is a mess. Syria and Egypt and Miley Cyrus on stage in her underwear, and racially, even worse.
This is not a typical time in Provincetown. We have moved from a quiet location one block from all the action to the quiet East End on a busy street. That, and I cannot walk far. I should say that the folks at physical therapy say I need more patience because I am doing really well for 7 weeks after major surgery, but I don't like being impaired walking. And I'm uncomfortable with some degree of pain most of the time. Maybe so for another month or two.
Tonight lounged on the couch we passed JB's IPad back and forth, resulting in this drawing. This is an app called Making Paper 53. I learned about it from Silke's blog. It has paint colors and different sizes and functions of pens and pencils and paint brushes. And an eraser. All easy peasy to use and fun to create drawings and doodads. And then to store them.
Plans for tomorrow: breakfast
read two chapters of my book aloud to JB (could be difficult)
work in the little yard weeding and pruning
go to the provincetown pool and lounge and bob
For me, it's been a quiet summer on the blogs. I have an unsettled feeling that Facebook has made the blogs less essential, and I hope that is not true because I love blogging.
Best wishes with love

I remember reading something about making life what it is now, not filled with if onlys and what if's...May you look back on these months of recuperation and feel a spring in your step again...without pain!
ReplyDeleteHello Teri! Wise words, good to live by. I am in a bit of a foreign land these days: walking freely is something I love to do. Patience! That's my challenge
DeleteAlways nice to see you here

Recovery--the loss of pain (or is it the narcotics?) is such sweet sorrow. {:-p
ReplyDeleteI do not know FB and blogs are two different mediums. But i will write on mine relevant or not *shrug* why waste a perfectly good patent/copyright?
Good morning mark. I don't do much on FB but I've come to enjoy seeing what everyone else posts: last night I saw a utube video of Linda ronstadt being interviewed by Johnny Carson.
DeleteBut I would never value FB as I do my blog!

I've become disillusioned with keeping up my own blog. I love writing post, but I do wonder if people embrace blogs anymore. No one seems to have the time to comment, much less read anything longer than a paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI wish you pain free days ahead. I'm on the last possible treatment for my knees, before the inivitable surgery on both. At this rate I would give anything to be able to do stairs the way I used to, at the very least pain free. (Hugs)Indigo
Indigo, don't give up. I for one will put you on my blog list and be a more reliable visitor.
DeleteI know what you mean about knees! I'll be happy to walk distances. I hope the pain is temporary and I'm told it is. Everyone I've heard from who's had a total knee replacement has no regrets. But man the rehab is not for wimps :-)
Always nice to hear from you. I'll be by soon

HEY KJ!!! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. At least one of us got about to do something wonderful. I have been working all summer long and I am grateful, but ness a needs a break LOL!!! So glad to see your comments. They made my day! You are the best. Thanks so much. Hugs to you!!
ReplyDeleteVee, you are working too much. Now what can we do about that? You are so talented and obviously in demand but vacation time is mandatory :-)
ReplyDeleteSince I am a counselor I will give you advice for 25 cents

I love that drawing. Keep up with the exercise, it will get better. I hope blogs don't become obsolete either. It's how I work my stuff out, and meet new people. It makes the world both bigger and smaller at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI've changed my name but remain the same.
Deleteha, i had to look you up to know it is you! i'm glad you didn't disappear as i worried you might have. i've spent some time tonight 'cleaning up' my blog a bit: adding to my bloglist people i want to keep up with and who i enjoy. i think come fall many of us will be back, esp when we have something to show or tell that isn't a quick sentence or two.
thanks for your encouragement, deb (lily?) I walked today maybe a third of a mile. tomorrow i'll walk further. I don't like the discomfort! heck, i just stopped my work for the first time in my adult life and here i am dealing with rehab! but i know i'll be better :^)

I'm just not a big facebook fan. I like it for just checking in...but is there a chance to really connect on FB? I just don't think so.
ReplyDeleteanyway - happy last-week-of-summer and walking a bit easier.
Hi Mim, how is the west coast? See you when you come home!

KJ!!! Girl you made my day! Really you did. Thanks so much for stopping and that you would include me in with Bella and Valerie, well I am just so humbled by it all. Sending you a massive hug right now. So glad you like the work. Best to you always!
ReplyDeleteV
Vee, are you kidding?! You ARE included with Bella and Valgal--not one doubt about that. You are amazingly talented and not just in one medium either. And my favorite: you have a gush sense of humor and a wide berth of love!

First of all, DON'T be impatient. Your body, which is such a miraculous thing, is slowly returning to normal (really, are you ever normal?). I am amazed that you've come this far and that you're finally on vacation. MUCH NEEDED for you. Also, the sale of your condo, what a relief.
ReplyDeleteI think you are so right about Facebook. I think people are looking for a quick touchstone. I love blogs because I love dipping into the beauty of other lives. Like our Lori Ann. I wouldn't miss her postings.
Love to you and J (and Chase)

'The beauty of other lives'
ReplyDeleteSo well said, Sharon. The beauty and the vulnerabilities and the gutsiness too.
Thanks always for your support! Of course you're right but this is no piece of cake, I worked in this very overgrown and very sweet postage stamp of a yard this morning for one hour and whew! I was too tired to go out for lunch! :-)

cute sketch. glad you have this time in provincetown. sounds like you are doing well, even though you'd rather be further along perhaps. take your time for better healing.
ReplyDeleteHi suki xo, it's a fun app. JB and I just kept doodling and passing it back and forth . I made a perso's head out of her son :-)
DeleteI'm doing okay with the function part but not the pain. I didn't think discomfort woc keep me from getting a good night's sleep and I don't like that one bit! Plus. I am an expert complainer :-)

My partner doesn't read my blog and sometimes that pleases me, but other times, when I feel I've been especially clever, it disappoints me.
ReplyDeleteAnd she doesn't draw sketches with me either!
So....wow...I consider you a lucky duck.
Maria, it's not what you think. JB doesn't read my blog either but some of my novel is memoir-ish and there are some parts that will hurt and upset her. I had to write what I wrote but now, slowly, we decided I would read aloud two chapters a day on this vacation. Depending, this is a book that may never be circulated. Let alone published . I appreciate that she is open and willing.
DeleteAnd the drawing: very fun '
Nice to hear from you. I hope you are feeling better

oh no, look at the number of people commenting on ur blog.
ReplyDeleteincidentally, this morning, i was thinking the exact same thing - facebooking gets so muc more response than blogging, but i prefer the slow pace of blogging. i love the languid, detailed exchanges here. so me is staying for sure!
Haha hdwk, half of those people commenting are myself :-)
DeleteI'm staying right here with our blogs too, and I'm you are

You have done remarkably well for 7 weeks post op- my goodness, and I know how frustrating it can be. How can you weed and prune? Standing up? How much standing can you do?
ReplyDeleteI think fb has overtaken from blogging and for me it is much easier and quicker- so I guess I have fallen into the fb trap. Sigh. Have a wonderful rest both of you, and Chase too.
Joss, I use my clippers standing up; cutting back shrubs and a rose brush trellis in this sweet Ptown yard.
DeleteYou know I FB too but maybe because I'm a writer and that means stringing words together, but my blog matters so much more. I don't believe the true relationships I have from blogging could have been born from FB

Kj, Glad you are getting better, I think some pain is to be expected and I hope it gets better.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to be at the ocean. I hate living so far from it and miss it so.
I hate FB, I really do and I don't blog as much as I used to, but I prefer it to the very light and surface posts on FB. I really only go there about once every two weeks and I feel I am losing touch with my bloggy friends, you all seem to be there when I do go and somehow it makes me sad, not sure how you all have the time! But I am also bad about getting to all the blogs. Life it seems is moving too fast to fit it all in and right now art is my main focus. I do love all of you and miss you.
God Speed in your healing.
Lovely poem above.
xoxo
Annie, I pop in and out of FB and I like keeping up with family and friends I would not otherwise be in any contact with at all. But the real action is here on our blogs!!!! That will never change for me xo
DeleteKeep sharing your art. That's enough.

I have just fallen into your blog from "Just Eat Your Cupcake"
ReplyDeleteI am a person with very bad knees, I do not even have a FB account and I love P-Town. Having all that in common,I am adding you to my reader and will try to backtrack a little to get to know you.
I think I may be coming to an end of what I needed my blog for, but I love getting a glimpse of other people's lives through their blogs. I hope you keep at it.
Hello and thank you for visiting, 8thday. That IS alot in common! I will be stopping by your place as well. Myself, I blog when and as I wish. I have met incredible people through blogging.

I so envy people who can draw. Perhaps, it is as you say about Facebook, but I don't like Facebook, and am content to remain with whomever else will be left behind.
ReplyDeleteHi snow, I think anyone can doodle and draw as long as no judgement tears its negative head :-)
ReplyDeleteI have found FB to be a mixed bag. The best part is the recipes tips and videos that inspire and teach me something quick and easy
