Let it come
I'm not done
Problem one
is not much fun

But problem two
could make me rue
From where it blew
I wish I knew.

Problem three
is my good knee
decided to be
contrary.

My yard is has beckoned
Every second
But for now I reckon
I'm inside trekking

Too much at once
I have a hunch
After lunch
I'll decide to crunch

Problems one two and three
Make room for tea
Welcome a tree
And of course still be me.

Hello friends, ten days to my surgery, hopefully eleven days to my recovery. I don't like the thought of anesthesia and I can't say I'm confident I'll be skipping down the road this summer. But I'm exercising the muscles in my knee in preparation and I'm mediating so I'll be a calm cookie in that operating room.  It would be easy for me to be discouraged and fearful (which I am) but I'm not taking that lying down. Well, I may be lying down (sometimes) but I'm going to prove to myself that I'm up for a challenge.

Things could be a lot worse. I am not going to write about problems four five and six because surely that would be too much! Right?!

Here in the U.S. summer has begun and what could be better? My yard is doing fine without me. I will have fresh tomatoes and fresh corn in August. I will float in a pool and maybe the ocean in August.

Meanwhile, in July, I will thank my family and friends for putting up with me.  :^)

I am ever an optimist; even if I know better, which is not the case here so far.

Love
kj

  1. kj,
    Good poem!
Wishing you the very best as you go through the surgery.
Having a positive attitude is so important, and it looks like you have that in abundance!
    Hugs,

  2. Hey KJ,
You have to know that my face just lit up like a Christmas tree when I saw that you had visited my blog. Your poem is so beautiful and I want to encourage you to think good thoughts and get all the rest you need. You will be in my prayers for a good surgery and some good sleep while it's going on and a quick recovery. If I were closer I would give you a big ol' hug. This will have to do for now. Sending you much happiness. V

As a matter of fact I can tell you of 17 surgeries where I was absolutely knocked out. I don't count the ones where the bastards kept me awake. Anesthesia is a hoot. Love t from the moment they insert the first needle into the IV to relax an already relaxed me, when they wheel a relaxed me into the freezing cold ass operating room but naked (I still think they do that so the nurses can have a laugh and the male doctors can feel superior) and then put that mask on me and say"Breathe man breathe deep"---about the only doctors orders I am happy to comply with.

HINT: Make sure you tell the nurse prepping you that immediately upon waking up in recovery you want a cigarette and tea (not coffee) waiting. It never worked for me yet but what the hell you treat them more respectfully than I do.

So in short: Don't worry about anything other than to ensure pre-surgery the surgeon marks the correct knee, make sure he understands which one it is 4 or 5 times, even if you have seen him 10 times already. Just tell him you're doing your best to save him from a major lawsuit for fixing the wrong knee.

One thing that's pretty cool is once they start to put you under there is this moment where you can pinch a cute nurse on the ass if you want and then claim no memory of it---just remember though payback is a bitch and they will pay you back probably with a misaligned catheter. Not that any of that is something I have ever done or have had happen as a result of.

In short yeah surgery basically sucks ass but there is, as in everything else an upside to it. Trust your surgeon and anesthesiologist and next thing you know they'll be shaking your shoulder "Ms. Jasper wake up now. It's time to wake up. Do you want some water?"

"Hell no I already said cigarette and tea!" Wake up mean and they know you're alright.

Need anymore OR reality checks just ask...I have a pantheon of stories and knowledge from the one on the cutting boards perspective."

Oh yeah the garden and all that cool it will be there waiting for you.

    1. Mark, you are so sweet to me! I know this is your way of bolstering me up and it works!

I won't be pinching any asses and if I do it's your fault.

I'm inclined to ask for cigarettes and zambuca. Do you thing that will complicate things?

And yes to that soft place when drugs take over

    2. Only the cigarettes...but get off the recovery table and start heading for the door. When they say where do you think you're going tell them to have a cigarette. They'll tell you which bathroom they smoke in because they can't afford the time to go outside.

  4. I also love that first moment of the "relaxing" stuff they give you before anesthesia. Don't be fearful, be confident. This will go well, and you will have to work at recovery but since when did good things come without work? I agree...make sure the right (as in correct) knee is marked, be a good patient, altho' not TOO good, and pinch a cute nurse on the ass.

    Baby status????

  5. Okay Mim, you have reinforced the ass pinch so you will be responsible along with mr walking man. I wonder if it matters to the pinchee if the pincher is gay or straight ?
    :-)

I'm glad to have reason to meditate. I don't know why I don't do it regularly. Kind of like praying to Saint Anthony--only when desperate ! :-)

    Love!

  7. Oh, but just think how much worse it would be withOUT anesthesia! Me, I'm grateful for it. Good idea to be doing some pre-exercise, that should help.

  10. I know your surgery will go well. Those pre surgery jitters are probably par for everyone. Sending prayers to you and hope you heal quickly and well. Lots of time to sit and write.
