Six Word Saturday: Mom

My mother is an incredible woman
.
She's 93, no longer in her home of 68 years, finally adjusted and happy in a rest home where she cannot remember what happened five minutes before. But she is vibrantly in the present moment, appreciative of her life and family.
.
Here's a snippet of her interactions last week.
.
Snippet # 1: Mom calls my godmother, who is 92:
.
Mom: How are you?
.
Marie: Oh Rose, I'm fine, but I fell out of bed and hurt my knee.
.
Mom: It's a good thing you sleep alone, then you know no one pushed you.
.
Snippet # 2: My mom has made a very good friend at the rest home, she also without a working memory:
.
Me: You look nice, Mom.
.
Mom: All dressed up with no where to go.
.
Dorothy: Who, me?
.
Mom: No, me. Where would you be going?
.
Dorothy: I'd be following you.
.
Mom: Well, then, you won't be going very far!

Happy weekend everyone. If you find yourself in need of some company or terrific recipes, stop by my Potluck Supper at # 9 Blogland Lane.
.
And please, keep praying for Renee and her family. Our prayers count.
xoxo

  1. Ha haaa!! I love your mom! I'll never forget the time we stayed there with you and she was there, too ... in the middle of the night ... Mom? ... Karen? ... Mom? .... Karen? ... Where are you? ... Where are *you*? ... much giggling between mother and daughter. :)

  6. Love the conversations. My Dad lives with Alzheimers,,and I love talking with him, following his thoughts, seeing the places where his mind goes. Sometimes I'm his daughter who lives 'far away', and sometimes I'm his wife. And it's all good. A great post kj!
Sorry I missed the pot luck,,,I haven't gotten around much lately,,,and I make the best dang briskit this side of the lane. Next time for sure!

  12. HA! I LoVe your Mom. Just too cute. Our deacon's Mom had Alzheimer's and he would share little stories about her. My favorite:

DEACON: Hi Mom, how was your lunch?

MOM: How the hell would I know.

  15. renee, my mother has a great sense of humor. i can't believe how sharp she is and what she comes out with. just goes to show you that memory is overrated. :)

soulbrush, my mom would tell you she absolutely wants to be around. she has given me instructions to have her revived at least once, to prevent any premature mistakes! and soul, in the present moment, i trust her judgement. she just can't hold on to information even five minutes ago. but she knows the people she loves!

annie, i hope you and your mom have a great visit. of course potluck next time!

    deborah, HAHAHA! too cute!

caroline, thank you. i do feel lucky to have her around. when she was sick and suffering after her broken hip, it was so hard. but now it's delightful. xo

hells, i couldn't ask for another thing. i am grateful for who my mom is and grateful that she is happy and funny. xoxo

  18. You know, KJ and visitors here, I am so glad that I did my best during English lessons and that I have worked in companies where English was one of the spoken languages (Dow Chemical e.g.) I have so much fun reading about Mr. Ryan and your fantastic mother and also I have so much fun in Blogland Lane (what a party it was, girl, but I was not the one who emptied your complete liquorcabinet, I solemnly swear it). :-))

  29. That is a very wise woman. When my mom (83) moved, unwillingly, into a very nice assisted living place, she was very unhappy for about ten months. She was legally blind, unable to walk far on her own, and wanted to live in her own home! We convinced her to move, finally, and after about a year, she met Joe, 92, and fell in love. How sweet is that? Two years later, after she died, Joe lost the will to play the saxophone anymore, and died a few months later. I like to imagine her in heaven introducing Joe to my dad!
