Two Roads

The Road not Taken
Robert Frost
.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;
.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,
.
And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference.
.
Sometimes you have to be brave. And in the choosing and the doing and the forging ahead, accept that what will be is what should be....

  1. I love this poem ... and being brave can be terrifying and exciting all at the same time ... I'm making friends with it ... tentatively but surely. :)

  4. One of the great regrets of my youth was my unwillingness to take the road less travelled . . .I think I might be making up for it as I blunder through middle age!

  5. This poem is always fresh and relevant to me. What's interesting is that Frost never really says that one road appeared to be different than the other - the passing there had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay in leaves no feet had trodden black - so it speaks to me of the power of individual perception. He perceived that he took the road less traveled; that was his vision. The all the difference is also not explained - good, bad - who knows? That, to me, is the power of this poem. It does not tell us what to think, but rather allows us to travel down our individaul interpretive roads. Anyway... although making life choices always takes courage I believe that we choose what we are meant to choose, and we decide whether to see our roads as busy or less-traveled... if that makes any sense!

  6. This is one of my favorite poems/philosophial approaches to life.

  7. Yet, there is wisdom in taking the well traveled paved road sometimes, it is not because of fear but necessity, one gets there faster.
