Monday Inspiration....

My brother sends me silly internet stories on a regular basis. Few make it to my blog, but this one has.
.
It's all about perspective. Oh, and about assumptions....
.
Dear Ma and Pa,
.
I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Army beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.
.
I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again.
.
It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on 'route marches,' which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A 'route march' is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.
.
This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.
.
Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6' and 130 pounds and he's 6'8' and near 300 pounds dry.
.
Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.
.
Your loving daughter,
Alice

Mr. Ryan

He: I'm coming for the weekend.
.
Us: Yes, we will have jellybeans for breakfast, ice cream for lunch, and candy bars for dinner.
.
He: My parents will not approve.
.
Us: Oh.
.
He: I will want to turn, open, and pry into everything in your house.
.
Us: We can sing songs and swim in the pool and play in the dirt.
.
He: Yes, but I will still want to turn, open, and pry into everything in your house.
.
Us: Oh.
.
He: I like to keep moving.
.
Us: Okay. We'll move with you.
.
He: We'll start at seven am and finish up around 7 pm.
.
Us: Oh.
.
He: Don't worry--I'll let you know if I need anything.
.
Us: Good. We will love to hear you say words.
.
He: I'll cry if I need anything.
.
Us: Oh.

kj's Writing Career: Chapter 2

Well, I'm doing it.
.
The story of Lily and Alex has been finished, polished and proofed three times.
.
JB read it in one sitting and said she cried at the end.
.
I've found and hired an Editor who will improve and tie it all together.
.
I've decided to publish it myself, which also means I've decided to develop my own (small) publishing company. Heck, I've been self employed for most of my career. I've developed resource directories, counseling programs, workshops, a restaurant, a movie theatre, an artisan cooperative, and real estate. So why not a publishing press?
.
I've reviewed the size, font, layout, paper, cover, page set-up, and net cost per book with a local printing company, and it's all doable.
.
I've started to think about how I will market: book signings, radio interviews, independent and specialty book stores, flyers, my blog.
.
I would lack the confidence and the determination if it weren't for the special people who visit my blog, share theirs with me, and have provided encouragement and kind feedback through every chapter. Thank you thank you.
.
There are a couple of areas where perplexity reigns. If you have suggestions, ideas, comments, opinions, observations--anything--would you please share them with me?
.
# 1 TITLE: What shall I call the story of Alex and Lily?
.
# 2 SYNOPSIS: What should I say, in one paragraph that would appear on the book flap, to explain what the book is about?
.
# 3 ADVICE: I'll appreciate anything.

Thursday 13: A Day in the Life....

I've randomly gone through my photos and chosen ones I simply like. Happy Thursday.
1. Friendship: This is jb and her friend Lori. Really, is there anything better than a good friend?
2. The Back Yard: It's actually modest, but it feels like paradise sometimes.
3. Self Portrait: I may not win a beauty contest, but I'm honest, and I think it shows.
4. New England in the Fall: It's as stunning as it looks.

5. jb's artwork: She finds lost objects and creates to her heart's content.
6. The Magic Cottage: It's kindergarten for adults.
7. The Kitchen: A new refrig and dishwasher
8. Family Vacation: Four adults and one sippy cup
9. Livingroom with Best Friend Artwork: It's pretty special to have a best friend who is also a terrific artist.
10. AWalk in the Park: a physical and spiritual workout
11. The Kitchen at Night: Also a spiritual workout
12. The Old House: This was my last view of it
13. New Orleans: Never forget.

Have a good weekend!
