I’ve always favored circles,
No worry about starts and stops.
There are no speed limits inside circles
Though I’m happiest when I glide.
Lately I help to dress and undress
in the same manner when I was thirty
but this time it’s old age that sets the terms,
not the wiry motions of preschool silliness.
I’ll talk about dying when you’re ready, Mom
And I’ll quiet my experience until you have your own, daughter.
I’m the in between thread that sews our borders
One to another,
A circle so strong
And long
And lasting
The comings and goings
Look the same.
Happy Mother's Day to my Mom and My Jess
and to everyone who mothers
through birth or breath or bonds.
love

A circle really is strong KJ. Very very strong. Something Allegra wrote recently keeps coming back to me and it's both poweful and pertinent. She said "I have to believe that The Universe is unfolding as it should". I think a belief of this nature is deeply resonant at times like this. Warmest hugs to you KJ. Happy Mothers Day. xx Jos
ReplyDeleteI do believe this jos, and I thank you for being here. I am lucky and grateful that you are my wise understanding friend

KJ, maybe it's the last Mother's Day for your mom. Peggy and I have lost ours, and this makes the day a little sad, but losing parents is the way of things, and life does go on--eventually for me; more quickly for Peggy. BTW, you expressed concern about the drugs I take, and I wrote a post to address that. It's the post right before the current one. Love, Snow
ReplyDeleteMy mother will go through the steps, snow. And I will help her. It's life, and it's sad. She is not ready, even though she's 96. I admire her for that
DeleteI owe you a comment. I visit and read and then sometimes I want to think before I comment. I care about you snow xoxo
What a delightful yet sad thought, kj. So beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, bear xoxo
DeleteBeautiful kj. xoxoxo!! Pam
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam. I hope you had a wonderful mother's day
Deletelovely poem on this special day. from a special person.
ReplyDeleteAwww thanks suki ♥
Delete"Through birth, or breath or bonds"...I really like that. You can mother all through your life, it does not have to be your own child.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. Thank you.

How true and how good to remember, Kay

Ah, KJ...this is so lovely....and so true. Thought of you and your Mum yesterday, as I was flying home....and I did make it to St. Patrick's Cathedral last week and lit many candles...one for you and JB and one for your Mum....and (yes) one for Stella.
ReplyDeleteCircles ARE a powerful form....an unending chain of LIFE...our precious gift....I love your Mum's wanting to keep a hold of it - I don't blame her.... and I know you will be there for her...that is a gift too.
Love,
♥ Robin ♥
p.s. LUV the new header!!!! ♥♥
Robin, I hope you had a grand time. I'm sure you did!
DeleteI will be there. I have to establish some balance for me which feels elusive right now. But I am taking a step and a day at a time. Thank you for special st Patrick prayers-- the most beautiful church

Ah Angela ♥ I have sometimes wondered if a special day may be the last. This time I think this will be my last with my own mother. Most of all I pray for her comfort and well being. I have been lucky she is my mother. I hope someday my daughter feels that way about me :-)

DeleteHi, kj.
ReplyDeleteThis was just lovely.
I spent some time tday visiting, here, as I'm off work on abit of sick leave, with time on my hands.
I couldn't have found a better place to find inspiration, and as well fun (Emily's post below), and encouragement.
I've always liked the quote by Mary Oliver, "Tell me, what is it you plan to do , with your one wild and precious life", - and so am happy to see the rest of the quote, here on your sidebar. Thank you!
Wishing you a good week, kj.
Brenda

DeleteAs for Emily: all I can say is she is thrilled by your comment

This is beautiful, KJ. I envy you your relationship with your mother and I'm so glad for you that you have such a lovely bond with her. ♥
ReplyDeleteHello cs! We didn't speak for nine years! So there's hope for anybody!!
DeleteI hope you had a great mom day
♥
kj
How simply wonderful these words are. You are truly blessed to have your mom with you still. My mom died when I was only 34, and although we had an awful relationship, as she was abusive and cruel to me, I do think of her on mother's day with an 'if only' sigh! So, next time you see your mom, give her a great big fat kiss from me in London!
ReplyDeleteJoss: I understand. It is such a significant relationship even when awful is the reality . But you have done it right for your own children and family

Gorgeous poem, KJ. A circle is indeed a tough thing to break. As are mothers, and daughters, and women in general.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well.
Thanks tracy. I LOVE your comment xoxo
DeleteThis is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI hope the day was perfect. For you, Jess, and your Mom!
Babs, it was an extremely difficult day for reasons I shall hope are now resolved. Life can come at you that way , eh? Xoxo
DeleteYour best poem? I think probably so. It is exquisite, kj. May the circle be unbroken, indeed...indeed.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, lydia. I am humbled by your comment
