Happy Halloween (Boooooo)

I cannot describe Halloween in Provincetown. Walking three blocks along Commercial Street last Saturday night, more than half the people I passed were quite dolled up in costumes. Outrageous creative unique costumes. Having an outrageous creative unique time of it. That is Provincetown. In the wild height of it all, JB grinned at me, "Did you ever think you'd still be dressing up for Halloween at our age?"

And speaking of JB, here she is.

And speaking of ages, here is a three year old little boy named Drew trying on his extra muscle Power Ranger costume. JB and I will go out with him and his brothers and his parents tomorrow night, door to door in his neighborhood, collecting compliments and candy.

When was the last time you donned a costume and became someone other than who you are? May I tell you something? You actually change. When you are no longer you, you don't act like you. You become someone or something else. Yes this is a generalization, but I think it's more true than not.

I did not take the time this year to create a great costume and I did not take photos. Not so last year. Last year I purred my way to dinner:

I wish you a HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

And by the way.....if you weren't you,
who would you be?

love
kj

  2. Well, here I was thinking things were terrible where you are, weather-wise. What did you do, cast a spell? We could use you in Oregon.

  4. you look lovely as a cat!.

I think the last time I dressed up was 1975 - long time ago. now I feel like I am in costume when I wear fancy dancy work suits...like I will today. so yes, I am dressing up for Halloween as a grown up. I don't really like this costume!

    1. Haha Mim, I understand this! I hope the presentation is soon in the distance and your grown up costume is flung into your suitcase! I know you will do well. Are you planning to throw candy corns to the audience?

  5. What I don't understand is this: if everyone is dressed up and wears masks while walking through the neighborhood to collect candy... who is at home to give that candy? ;-)
And another question: Is this event sponsored by dentists?
    But you look wonderful. :-)

  8. KJ, I dress up every year! (I think last year, due to health, was one of the few I missed!)
    I'm going to be a witch this year----HEY! THAT'S WITH A *W*, NOT A *B*!!!! heeheehee!
DH is in his *early day* costume....he has another for later.
On my blog, you can see I'm just *dressed normally*....
P-Town sounds so much like the French Quarter~~I miss Halloween there!
A happy night for young and old alike!

  9. I dressed up this year and went to a co-workers party. I wish I didn't!! Toooo late for this chick and much too many youngsters drinking too much. Ugh. I'm 27 years over that scene!

Fun post Ms. KJ kitty ;)

  10. I dressed up as a character for a murder mystery party last year. I love costumes. But Halloween night I'm in a candy-giving-out role.

  13. Oh wish I'd been there to soak up the atmosphere...halloween is pretty low key over this side of the globe...jb looked great...and yes you're right about changing depending on the 'costume' being worn...and what a question who would I be...you know I've never thought about that one...maybe an archaeologist...maybe a surgeon...

  14. i remember your amazing 'cats' makeup from last year - were you grizabella?

i love halloween but in recent years have moved from doling out candy at the front door to lighting a candle in honor of samhain and focusing more on the mystical.
