Breakfast, 1921, Fernand Leger

thanks to tess kincaid at the mag for a very strange prompt. Here is my food driven breakfast inspired poem:

You don't kid me,
Those are not eggs
I can see right through
Those wide jelly legs

And don't think I think
Your hair is jet black
served over easy
without much intact

Yes the setting is poor
for much atmosphere
Still I can still break the bread
But no, not the fear

When you pour me a  coffee
served up strange and straight
I know you expect me
To reciprocate

And so I will:
See, I've brought you some scones
In case you forget
You're not really alone

love
kj

  1. Actually I like the writing a lot it meets the abstract nature of the picture right in the middle. That last verse where you are telling th one who made you breakfast brings it back from the surreal to the real.

as an aside THANK YOU kj I think things are working out in NB some now, but will call if we have to.

  2. ha nice flow to this...and some fun along the way as well....there are some subtle nuances as well that strike a cord...the reciprocation...the strangeness of straight orange juice...smiles....the closure is tight on this as well...

  3. Yes, well, um, this is interesting. I see the words, but somehow I've lost the flow.

Poetry is sometimes too subtle for a Bear.

  11. i'm so sorry i haven't visited in a while......like you, i'm working on a novel. but somehow blogging and working on a novel don't mix very well for me - like walking and chewing gum, can't do both.

this is beautiful, kj. i think it's amazing that you could just spin these words, like golden threads, on the spot for a poetry contest.......ceaselessly amazing.

my heart melted when i saw the photo of chase.......yes, stella is looking down and very pleased. they would have gotten along famously. goddess bless her and your gorgeous new pup.

    xoxo

  12. I'm still pondering this one. And now I must run up and down the stairs to avoid developing wide jelly legs. **little lost right now** Deb
