Moleskine Mish Mash & perhaps a little give away...

.
.
.
maybe if you click on this and it enlarges you will see some of my 'personal narrative'
.
.
I wish I could send everyone I know and care about a Moleskine. I like the fact that Ernest Hemingway had one and I like that the protective hardbound cover pretty much assures that I will keep mine safely tucked away, maybe even to be viewed by great grandchildren I will never know.
.
.
It's romantic and pragmatic for a writer to carry a Moleskine. I can't even count how many times I'm driving and I pull over to write down something I've thought of or heard.
.
.
I'm just finishing up my fifth or sixth Moleskine. Here are some random entries as this one comes to a close:

The joke:

'Did you see me come in?'
'Yes,' she says.
'Have you ever seen me before?'
'No,' she says.
'Then how did you know it was me?'

Mom: You probably still are.

Okay: if you've read this far, I'm sneaking in a little contest. The prize is a moleskine of your very own. Here are the rules:

1. Choose your favorite snippet from above and explain why your chose it.

2. I will select my favorite explanation.

3. The winner will receive a moleskine that may come with a doodle or two already in it....

One more thing: it was so hot today the candles on the porch melted!!!

p.s. I don't know WHEN Emily Rabbit will appear, but I know she will......

  1. Well if you had to predict which one I'd choose I think you'd be bang on KJ.

Are the past and present equally real?

My head knows things my heart just will not accept. My head knows that the past is gone and holds no power ... my heart quakes and shakes in the grip of memories that do not let go. My head says "just let them go" ... my heart says "how?" ... my head is still working at an answer that will be acceptable ... that will balance needs with wishes.

So is the head more pwerful than the heart? Yeah right, head would like to think so but heart smirks up her sleeve at such arrogance.

I could just as easily written on any number of these snippets KJ. They evoke all sorts of thoughts and feelings. xx Jos

  2. note to all my friends:

if you do not know jos, you will now know that she is a writer and a poet of the highest order.

jos, OMG, are we twins? it's as if you're in my head thinking and feeling as i do! i imagine there will be others of us here who find your words so totally spot on!
you are in the lead for this contest. HAHAHA jos. but really, this is a pretty fine comment.

  3. Ryan's question is my favourite. I love that innocent probing of time and change. When you are a child, turning four could mean that your bed will automatically grow 2 feet and ice cream will become dinner. Perhaps your name will change. Anything is possible. :)

  4. I love the ones I could read. For some reason some colors and I am not color blind, goodness knows, are truly difficult for me to read. So, I don't feel it is ethical for me to pick a comment and enter the giveaway (high poloi way of saying I have a moleskin but I hate to write anything because it is so pristine and hopefully waiting for something profound which obviously is not forthcoming from this corner)

But I love to see what the group will come up with. And I agree with you completely about Jos.

    Love from here.

  5. i do love the way your mind works, the way it whirls about and darts and dashes and dwells and dabbles...oooh it's a 'd' day.
emily is watching you right now, look out of the corner of your left eye, no no don't move your head or she will spot you.

  6. "And Casey, falling into a passion she had unknowingly buried years ago, could not stop either one of them. Could not. Did not."

I think we all carry those passions deep within us, and fight against the knowledge of their danger. How to re-direct them to something healthier and more soul-satisfying? How to even find the desire not to just plunge head-long into that which will devastate us? I haven't found the answers yet.

  7. P.S. A companion silly joke to your own:

Two nuns are riding donkeys down a narrow back street in Italy, taking a short-cut to the convent. The younger nun leans over and says to the older, "I've never come this way before." The older nun smiles and says, "It's the cobblestones."

  8. I'm on the FLOOR with Secret Agent's joke!!!!!!!! :D

Oh God, I have to remember this one!!

Oh shoot, now I have to go back because I forgot what quote I chose!

    hahahahahaha!!
    The cobblestones!

  9. I guess having to choose under pressure leads me to pick this one.

Nicole, age 25: 'I've been in a hurry to do the important things my whole life'

I remember being 25 and hating it. It was a tough time in my life and I just wanted it to be over. Not my life, but the drama and bullshit.
So, like Nicole I was in a hurry to get to the important things.

Now I know it's best to let life unfold as it will. We really can't stop the future although better choices can alter it.

I don't think I should be in the running. I know you'd buy me a Moley if I asked ;)

I already have several unfilled ones calling to me ;P

    hey...see ya Saturday!!

    xxoxo

  10. I have to come back later, or I will be late for an important meeting, and I want to read every word. and by the way where is that MOMA post? I won't let you forget (You know I won't) :-).
Or have you done it and blogger ate it?
    Love.
P.S. I agree with what you said about Jos!!!!

  11. "sometimes we live in a cool corner in hell because we dont want to walk through fire."

expresses so well my passivity and proclivity to put up with nightmarish situations just to avoid change.

i hope Emily is staying cool under some lettuce leaves.

  12. ps where are those cobblestones located?

  13. ACK! I can't pick! I love what your mom said. I love what Ryan said. I love what you said to Renee. I love the one about the cool corner of Hell. You pick! hahaha! And Jos is brilliant. Holy tomato, the company I keep here in Blog World is humbling. Love Moleskines, btw, and have one at the ready, so you can bypass me. They are great for doodling in, too. I gave one to Caity for her birthday. And Alex keeps one in his back pocket.
off to the races - xoxo! Pam

  14. Can't pick one...they are all eloquent in their own way....

Love your joke - love "Secret Agent's" joke.... it feels great to laugh in the morning!

Jos' comment is so profound and beautiful.... she gets my vote!

Love you, love Stella....love Emily (I KNOW she is managing to stay cool under the lettuce - plus using the upside down cake box as a screen to shield her from the sun!)

    MUWAH!

  15. purestgreen, you are SO right! there is nothing i like better than hearing and watching small children figure out an everchanging world. i will never forget my mr. ryan watering our garden lollipops and jellybeans last weekend. be still my heart!

allegra, are you saying you do not write in your moleskine? i urge to do, and to doodle and color and make squiggles and circles. it is such a simple pleasure. ♥

oh joss, emily is watching me all the time. i can;t do a damn thing without her two cents. good thing she keeps me light and happily whining... :)

cs/secret agent, say no more. we understand. would you trade the passion, the knowledge, the heart's journey to foreign lands? i know i am wiser, but i still can't say i regret the love. we learn, and who knows: maybe we are afterall the richer and fuller for it. i like to think so.

cs, HAHAAAAAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA!that is hilarious and you have encircled my entire day with a non stop smile. HAHAHAHHAHAHA!

lo, 'it's best to let life unfold as it will.'. yes. how wise and true. buy you a moleskine? my dearest friend, i would buy you an island if i could!

annie, oh, an important meeting: can you hear me root-toot-tooting? your life is twirling just right. (i pray for your Mother's health)
i'm glad jos is appreciated so lovingly. do you know she is emily's business manager. she is not just a pretty faced poet....
ps. moma, oh jeez, okay okay. i like and laugh that you won't let me forget it. and what about my sex survey? i'm behind on that too (language not to be taken literally please) :)

suki, i love that quote too. so so true. honey, i think you have one BIG decision to make and the rest will be small change from then on. and i think you will make that big decision. root-toot-toot for you too.

and suki, about the cobblestones (hahahaHAHEEhahaha)(i can't stop laughing), try substituting the couch. or the top of the washingmachine....heeheehee

pam, allow me a serious moment: the company you keep here in blogland is enriched by your presence. you are my special silly joy. (are you choking? i hope you are not eating a sandwich right now!) i give moleskines as gifts too.
btw, prudie1, you and i are members of a rare elite group who spells MOLESKINE correctly. it seems everybody else leaves off the final E.

  16. there is consensus:

    jos rocks!

  17. robin, please pick one. PLEASE! i want to know what you'll pick. just one. okay, pick two.

you love my joke? you might be interested to know lo thinks it is the worse joke ever. she is very convincing about it. but i am not deterred. even though she may have a point.... hee hee hee ♥

    ReplyDelete
  18. Okay, okay, I will select one....
(Emily just rang up and said if I DIDN'T...she would send someone to my house with a FOG MAKING MACHINE and cover all my windows with cold air... that Bunny wields power!)

"Whoever Dances Belongs to the Whole"..... why? Because to dance expresses so much....joy, love, even pain and sadness...and to BELONG to a whole - is to belong to the Universe - to life.
    Everyone can dance...even a little "Bunny Hop"....is a dance.
Animals all dance - bees, plants nodding their graceful heads in the breeze...

Second choice would be "Sometimes we live in a cool corner in hell because we don't want to walk through fire." Why? YOU know why...

Jos still gets my vote though....(and Emily did not force me to say that)!

Love you, KJ.....oh. mustnt forget to say the photo of the melting, bending candles says it all....

    XXXOOO,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  20. I pick "FUCK CANCER." And you know why. Sending a pocketful of kisses to the wind, may the butterflies bring them all to Renee.

I feel the same way about Moleskines. If everyone had one, the world would be a better place.

  25. Ryan to his Mother, "When I'm four, will my name still start with R?
KJ I have always loved "from the mouth of babes" So innocent and cute. I've had my grandsons out, from Winnipeg, for 2 weeks. So haven't been here much. Will be taking them back to Wpg on the 12th, which is Jacquie's BD. I'll stay in for a week and a half. Talk soon. Hi to everyone here. Lov U

    ReplyDelete
  26. Okay, can I choose two?
First, FUCK CANCER, well yeah, who would not want to wipe it from the face of this earth, mostly I choose it because Renee said it first and I love Renee and I love how she said fuck all the time (in fact I am channeling Renee right now :-). I just loved it about her along with many other things. Also many family members have died of it, so yeah, Fuck Cancer.
The other one is: Are the past and present equally real? I think they are and I think that they are NOT real at all because all that is EVER real is NOW. ( I think Jos should win, even though I would love a mole). I love all your bloggers, but right now Jos is getting my vote for the sweetest, along with Suki and Angela and Robin and Lololo and you of course.
Keep cool and thanks for the tooting and kisses to JB, Stella and Emily.
    xoxo
    Don't forget MOMA.

  27. oh dear kj, i love all your bloggers too, every comment. i've been laughing and sighing. and your post, so fun, thanks for showing your moleskine, i love so much journals (i have a collection of old ones i've found at flea markets).

i strive to live by "harm no one", so i guess that would be my pick.

and i'm a little embarrased to say this but i've never had a moleskine. i thought hemingway used a typewriter (on safari even) so that's what i bought! i'm feeling a bit out of it now.

and i'm a little envious of your heatwave, we are still blanketed in fog (cold, cold fog). at least it's keeping more people out of the water! (thanks for the shark warning, haha!)

    xoxo,

  29. thank you robin for choosing afterall. dancing IS a release of the soul, isn't it? i am a bad dancer and for years i would not dance at all, but no more. now i dance... :)

    secret agent, yay!

eleonora, how nice to see you here. just yesterday i told myself i want to visit your blog regularly! i love your comment about moleskines. i agree! and about our renee: yes, i know why. ♥

bimbimbie, OMG!!!! YOU ARE TOO MUCH! HAHAHA! i so totally love how loose we girls are here. long live the sisterhood, annie!!! TSUP!

chewy, tee hee tee hee hee ha ha HAHAHA! aren't you clever, chewy! what's the proper word, flacid? flacid cancles? :)

hells, your comment after chewy's and robin's is very comical! (email coming from me about a moleskine xo)

camille, let's be in touch while you are with jacquie. so glad you had time with your grandsons. what an experience, eh? i love you back, camille. my best to everyone. ♥

annie, fuck cancer indeed. i hope renee is banging her angel wings right now. you remind me of these questions, 'what time is it?
the time is now. 'where are we?' we are here. it's that simple. and yet, back to jos. she is right too, of course. xoxo

hello lori! i've been wondering, where is lori? i need lori to see this post! you know what, maybe hemingway didn't use a moleskine. i might have made it up (now i must check!) but you should have one. i think you should. hmmmm.
i'm sorry for your cold fog. this heat almost floored me last night. thankfully jb and i bought a house with central air even though we didn't KNOW it had central air when we bought it! ♥

  31. I like this one: "Ryan to his Mother, "When I'm four, will my name still start with R?" Because, I like little kids view of the world. They've been on the planet such a short time everything is something to wonder about. It's refreshing.
I've never owned a moleskin. I'm not even sure if I want one. But if I win one I promise to use it.
