I Can't Say Why...

this is herring cove in Provincetown at sunset. I can view a similar scene
just about every night and I am reassured of holiness.

I should say something,
this week knowing
how much has changed
in the flick of a ballot.
I am not a fan
of the man.

Anger builds and fear swells.
This country damaged and misled:
I should tremble but not yet I don't
I should despise but not yet I won't.

Crazy, I believe the worse won't stand
Crazy, I believe this trouble gets us truth
I'm sorry we are all so pained
But I'm betting in the end we gain.

I can't explain why or how I am reserving judgement about the terrible miscarriage and mistake of electing Donald Trump as America's President.  For some  reason I think he is going to blow the lid off the racism and fear-mongering and divisions that have festered in the land for some years now, and for some reason I think a majority of people--decent people--are going to scream and insist 'Enough' and 'No More.' I don't know what that will look like--how severe the correction will be--but I believe there will be a correction that is already overdue.

I'm sorry the USA is putting us and you though this, World. It must be our Amrican nature to roll the dice. This time that recklessness will break our hearts, but I don't think the damage will drown us.

I can't tell you why I think this way. But for some reason I do.

Love
kj

    1. suki, I hope i'm right too. we're in a mess of a pickle, that's for sure. I think in the next month or two we'll have some sense of tone and substance. I know there will be resistance to wrongs, and i take comfort in that.

  2. I've wondered why I am not despairing. You've described what I am feeling, perfectly.
    Thanks.
FINALLY made it to the Cape, for just a day. It was my sister's birthday. We retraced our childhood through the Yarmouths, Dennis' and Chatham. One day was not enough. But it was glorious!

    1. cyndi, the cape has been glorious for sure--a perfect fall season.

I find myself on the verge of despair but i keep thinking i am not alone in knowing what's right, knowing that racism and all other isms cannot and will not stand. what the heck is wrong with our human species that we evolve so slowly in human matters?

  3. We, even us Canadians, have to cling to the hope that the good and right will prevail.

    1. hi birdie, the thing is, things are falling apart throughout the world. our species has to wise up and the usa has just made a move that counters that. the dark before the dawn; i hope dawn prevails.

    1. It's not that I'm not worried. I just want to believe the majority of Americans know what is decent and right

  5. We have a saying here in the Netherlands: The soup is never eaten as hot as it is served. I remember (oh, I ám old) the election of Mr. Ronald Reagan. The world was upset then, because he had been 'just an actor'. But now he is considered as not a bad president at all. The people of the USA have made their democratic choice and has to deal with it. I hope everything will turn out for the best.

    1. Wieneke, there are many many Americans, i among them, who have little good to say about reagan's 'trickle-down economics, which is based on a belief that tax cuts for the wealthiest will benefit all the way down.

I hope trump moderates. -and I believe many many Americans will
      Insist on that.

  6. I will never apologize for my nation. I do not feel the need. We have done in the main far more good than evil and not even this coming storm can change history.

I do agree though that this pimple needs to be popped, this simmering undercurrent of hatred's and biases needs to once and for all be brought out into the light of day and good people of rational mind have to stand against the darkness with just as much strength as the winds that are rising.

When it comes to the government I only hope the minor party learned enough tactics and lessons to withstand the coming assault by them of Gen X in the house and senate on the social compact. If not the many who never earned enough to save will be lost and they will drown in their fears.

Now that there is no reliable veto in place I expect the first year in office will tell the true tale of the rhetoric and the people's placement of trust.

  7. mark, you speak so wisely. i agree with everything you've said except i believe we may owe the world an apology if we fail to rail against the winds that harm.

  8. I hope Trump moderates too, but I'm not counting on it. Yet as one pundit said, the exact ugly behavior that got him elected may also get him impeached.

    1. amanda, a couple of weeks into it now, i don't see moderation. he is so foolish and crude. i think there will be pushback on that.
