Slice of Life

Things are humming. The hum has been bad but now it's better. JB and I are selling the modest sweet condo in Provincetown we've owned for 20 years and miracle upon miracle, we have just spent our first weekend in the barely furnished very lovely little single family house built in 1910 we unfathomably managed to afford.  Am I moving to Provincetown now? No. Is the house an important puzzle piece of the future. Maybe. Probably.

These photos span a few weeks. But in them, at least to me, is a transition happening. These photos do not include the view of the bay one block away, the front porch that will be so cool once we decorate, the space for Jess & Mike and the boys and the almost arrived new baby, and the yard--a tiny yard with a brick walkway probably 50 years old and a trellis 8 inches thick with I'm not sure what--maybe roses. It hangs over the back gate. I love it already.

Enough words. Here's a slice of Provincetown, old and new.

Would you believe that to many 'buyers' this spiral staircase is a negative?
Not to JB and me!

The assembly and decoration of an old little house with character has begun. JB and I will rent the house for some weeks this summer, so we have to furnish and supply it in the coming weeks. Translation: go out and shop and don't feel guilty. We're buying comforters and dishes and end tables and floor lamps; some from Homegoods (discount home furnishings), some from the Provincetown Soup Kitchen and Thrift Store; some from the local auction where I nabbed three floor lamps in good condition for $ 5.00.

There is more to say but tonight I will let this slice of life be just that.

Two more things: this house is really fine. And I think my Jessica will love it too.

Love
kj

  2. Way to go kj! Persistence pays off. I do believe we will be staying here until age or taxes forces us out. *sigh* Probably the latter before the former.

  3. It's a gorgeous place. I love spiral staircases. Maybe people don't like the idea of navigating them when they get older? But you can always use the regular staircase, right?

  4. Hi cs, the spiral is the place we're selling. 20 plus years of memories around that spiral staircase. The new place needs our 'touch' to make it ours but it has the bones and character of a time gone by. It all feels great

But gotta sell our spiral case condo !

  6. Well, KJ, you have been busy! I love the fact that you have found such a wonderful place for your future, and had a glimpse of the awesome house your daughter and her growing family have just bought. Since I'm grounded I'm enjoying living vicariously. Take care.

    1. Been thinking of you, Andrea. Xoxoxo

The house that Jess and her family will live in gives me such comfort . We are both buying houses at the same time. We did that 8 years ago too.

I wish I could do something for you . I wish I could by with hot biscuits......

      Love always

  7. Exciting stuff!!! The nice thing about spiral staircases is the room they DO NOT take up. A new house, a new baby coming. Good times.

    1. Amanda, the odds are for a 4th boy. We would all be surprised and excited if a baby girl arrives. I would immediately go shopping for little dresses :-)

The house feels very right. JB and I decorate very well together . This place will get a little renovation--probably knock down a half wall to open up the kitchen. That stuff is so fun

      Safe travels

    1. I agree Tracy. Making a space warm is one of my favorite things.

I am surprised that a spiral staircase is not going to be a plus in selling our condo. Turns out older people and folks with kids don't see it that way :-)

  18. I'm sorry Kj I looked at your first picture before I read your post...stopped me dead in my tracks! Just today as I was arguing with the soon to be x wife I was telling her that we both need to let our kids know without a doubt that we both love them and both are here for them, that they can come to us for anything...she doesn't understand, has never known how hard it is to tell, nor does she understand how likely it is for a child of divorce to be harmed in that way.

I'll read your post later after my eyes dry up

    Chris
