A Very Brief Halloween Tale

JB and I mailed Mr. Ryan age 5 one of those Halloween cards that talks. When you open it  a Vincent Price type voice booms  "I have my eye on you!" while a paper eye pops up.

Last night I received the following e-mail from my daughter Jessica:

"So the good news is Ryan loved getting mail and was thrilled with the stickers on the envelope. The bad news is that the voice in the card petrified him and he cried for 5 minutes" :)

Oh s----. We are seeing Mr. Ryan and his brothers and parents on Sunday. I hope the large dead moth I am bringing him makes up for our indiscretion.

  1. Oh No....but I cant stop laughing as I too have made the same mistake many a times...thinking something might be funny, and the kids have nightmares for days...Oooops...heehee...xoxo

  2. Oops you should see how my son and dil glare at me when I say something to frighten the grands- which isn't too often. We can't always get it right Gran. LOL.

  3. hahahaha how cool are you...scaring the crap out of him and ringing him dead am sure it wont permanently scar him....smiles....

  4. Um, well, I'm not betting on the moth.

A thought for Hallowe'en. (Actually a Celtic prayer.)

    From ghoulies and ghosties
    And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
    Good Lord, deliver us!

  5. ☺ I think it's funny too.

If Ryan is anything like my Jack, he will be intrigued by the moth.

He swore he wasn't scared at the movie I took him to,,,but he was practically in my lap half-way through. Scared,,,and lovin' it, huge eyes glued to the screen,,,,hangin' all over his grannie,,,safe. I was lovin' it too.

  6. oh too funny! I'm not counting on the moth either but good luck

  7. Ahhhhhhh poor Mr. Ryan! Well this will make a fun anecdote for the future :P
He will survive the moth as well ;)

  8. It is a bad thing for a little child to have two granny's like you two :-)))
Thanks for the update about Chase. Maybe much sleep is good for him.

  9. i guess we never know how anything we do or say will effect another person as we all not matter what age have different responses to life. dead moth???

  10. That made me laugh out loud! Just think, some day it will be a story you and Ryan laugh about together.

  11. Heh heh! Well, all morbidity and angst aside...I love it!

  12. How are things going with the storm? I don't know where you live, but I know you spend a whole of time in Providence, so I assume you're in its path, so I'm worried about you.

  13. hahahahahaha...I'm not laughing about the storm, but I did the very same thing a couple of years ago. My little boy was so looking forward to opening the envelope and I keep thinking he must have felt so betrayed by his loving Nammy! heehee, it still brings on the chuckles, even so...xx
