The Sea

bad photo of seals so you can see how close to shore they were

Okay, this was my day today. A ten minute boat ride to Long Point, a tiny island in Provincetown where the sand is soft, the ocean is vast, and there is plenty of beach.

JB, I and our friend Liz sat in front of seals all afternoon. One was 50 feet from JB and me the whole time we were in the water.

We saw two baby dolphins on the boat ride back.

The day was spectacular: you couldn't help but notice how utterly beautiful the world is.

It was low tide when we arrived back to the boat house.

So low we three had to walk a bit of distance in a foot of water off the boat.

The sand was not even.

When JB fell and then Liz, we couldn't stop laughing,

Until  JB realized: soaked iPhone, soaked iPod, soaked camera.

The  iphone and iPod are currently attempting rice immersion therapy. The outlook is sketchy.

JB is very upset.

We had to console ourselves with two pound lobsters and two episodes of Sex & the City.

I hope your day was at least 50% as good as mine at the sea.

Two days left.

love

  1. Hi kj,

If ever there were two words designed to grab my attention, it is the words "The Sea". Wonderful pictures. Happy day, well, until the electronics got dunked. Good luck with the rice therapy.

  3. I love it when the sun sparkles and rays through the clouds like that. It reminds me of sacred paintings showing the celestial plane somehow. I-stuff is usually quite resiliant and the rice idea is sound. Actually you can just leave them in the airing cupboard (do you have airing cupboards?) for a day or two and all might be well. I know my brother filled his pockets with snow one year when skiing. Snow melted, so immersing i-phone. Dried out and started working again after a couple of days.

I am popping by really KJ to say that I am as promised hoping, wishing and praying for things to be OK with you and your Mom. On my drive to work in the morning I make it my practise to mentally / prayerfully think of the people I care about who need a special thought. You, JB and your Mom are on that list.

Oh, and I hope to meet you one day too. Big hug xx Jos

    1. Lucky ducks indeed Annie. Except poor JB is facing no rehab for her phone, camera and music.

I was amazed how awesome it was to be on an island and to just walk into this clean ocean. With seals nearby! And gulls flying three feet overhead . I felt part of the sea :-)

    The consoling part: excellent!
Looks like an absolutely perfect time.
Were you at all concerned about sharks? I've been reading about so many following the seals, and practically coming up on the beach.
Really glad you had this time!

    1. Babs, yes, concern about sharks. We avoided certain beaches. But we were assured nO shark sightings ever in the inlet we swam in. I thought about that with seals so nearby.

      It was so great, babs!
