Holiday Tips from Ms. Oblivious

.
WHOA!
.
How much holiday pressure am I inviting into my life and why?
.
I spent a part of last weekend with Mr. Ryan and Mr. Baby Drew decorating chocolate Christmas tree cakes and making these fabulous munchies. I have to share the recipe if you don't already know it, because, can you see how beautiful these are and would be in a little gift box to anyone any age?
.
The recipe is super easy:
.
flat pretzels
Hersey's kisses (unwrap them) :)
M & M's
.
spread the pretzels on a cookie sheet, put a chocolate kiss on each one, and place in 175 F. degree oven for about 4 minutes, until the kisses soften a bit. Then push an M & M into each kiss, let them cool a few minutes and refrigerate a half hour more or less.
.
This is the result. I should mention Mr. Ryan is not yet four years old so if he and I can make these look so good, anyone can.
.
And.....you can substitute Rolo's (chocolate with carmel inside) for the kisses and stick a walnut or almond in instead of an M & M and you just about have fancy chocolates.
.
I wonder how many of you already know this recipe? Because I am like a little kid sharing it. :)
.
I have another suggestion:
.
I am super busy. There are dear people I want to see, special things I want to do, cookies I want to bake, presents I want to make. I also work and I could easily be overwhelmed. Hell, I probably AM overwhelmed already if I stop and think about it.
.
BUT.......so far I am just holding myself accountable to achieve 2 or 3 things a day. That's all and so far I'm making progress.
.
Today I wrapped three gifts, packaged a couple for mailing, took them and long distance cards to the post office, & bought a couple of stocking stuffers. That's my 3 things for today.
.
I may fit in this and that as well, but so far I'm happy with what I'm doing. I have several plans and events nailed down, I kind of know the menu for Christmas eve and Christmas day, I'm heading for New York City this weekend for a Broadway play with Jess and JB. And over the next couple of weeks I will love spending special time with special friends.
.
I generally like this time of year. I like giving and I like sharing. I will probably end up in a panicked frenzy, but for now I'm oblivious and that is fine with me.
.
The end for now :)
With love
kj

  5. HO HO HO!!! I am just stopping by to hand you a cup of cocoa and to say, "Good job on those cookie-candy things!". They look delicious, but since I am still wearing Halloween candy on my rear-end (and other places), I might have to hold off on indulging. I'm with you - three things. First up: get everything mailed that needs to be mailed. Okay, back to sipping cocoa and Fa la la laaaaaing! xox

  6. I'm going to be oblivious as soon as I get everything mailed! We'll be staying home for Christmas...the kids are going to Mexico...so mailing is the top priority. And after that, well...that couch, a cup of tea and a good book sound awfully good!

  13. Interesting to see these treats after you told me about them. For some reason (my imagination probably) I thought the chocolate would melt into all the little squares and you wouldn't be able to see any pretzel. Perhaps I'll leave mine in a bit longer. Or perhaps I won't have time to make them, hahaha! So sweet that Mr. Ryan was your sous chef ;)

Frantic is common over the holidays. Just try to be blissfully frantic!

  14. I love this time of year, even if I that means I end up getting all hardcore A Type and make to-do lists that go down to my knees. I think you've nailed it nicely that it's good to just do one or two things on the list each day... and leave a little room for breathing!

PS adding pretzels to chocolate makes them like, twelve times better, doesn't it?? YUM.

  15. Well my darling you are way more organised than me. Who knows, expect your card after Christmas! WAH. Love the little pretzel thingamies. I'm with Marianne, Rolo sounds wicked.

  16. Ooh, those do sound easy. I wonder if I could make them with tiny sugar cookoes as a base instead? (I am not a chocolate pretzel fan.)
