A Night & a Day

.
She loves it. Her surgery has not gone well and her right back leg is weak. Somedays she just wants to lie quietly on her bed. She has never been a water dog.
.
We both had a tough night. I have been writing up a storm, 'storm' with a double meaning. The words are not easy but they are spilling out. I am very pleased really, but it is not easy.
.
But last night was wonderful. It is quiet and peaceful and cozy and breezy here in Provincetown. I didn't go out yesterday, except for walks with Stella. Last night I wrote, I read, I thought and relaxed.
.
I love the rain. I know not everyone does. Stella doesn't. (understatement!) It poured last night. I closed every open window (all of them!), gave Stella some Rescue Remedy to calm her nerves.
.
I went upstairs to bed in a lovely calm place.
.
Then!
.
When I went to turn off the hot water faucet, it crumbled in my hand. In pieces. I tried to shut the faucet off for 45 minutes. I found a screwsdriver, a wrench. I tried to shut off the valve. No way. I closed the bathroom door and nervously hoped the water would not back up, would not overflow.
.
Then!
.
Stella was whining. I got out of bed, went downstairs and lay on the couch, my hand on her back for an hour or more. When I woke up, I remembered the hot water was still on.
It was a sleepless night!
.
The plumber came at noon. I flunked 'environmental consciousness' school today. All that hot water made me think of BP and all that oild pouring forth.
.
I am still tired.
.
But a walk to the bay changes things fast. What a luxury. Even Stella said so.
.
Love
kj

  1. You told me about Stella being under the docks today and this is exactly how I pictured her.
    How blissful is this?
    I just love her.

Funny to see her shaved legs from so long ago. And fresh looking wounds, from licking maybe? Who knows.
She looks happy and content, unlike poor you last night.

    I love her footies.
    She's an angel.
    You too ;)

    xoxoxo

    I hope Stella improves steadily!

  6. oh man! the water was worrisome enough but poor stella. i'm sorry you had this night. stella must love you so.

sweet photos kj! it's fun to see where you are.

  7. dammit mim! i tried and tried. i admit i wasn't sure which way to turn the valve, and i was afraid of breaking it and then i would have a huge problem, but i did try. i was glad to see that it took the plumber some time before he could move that valve.

and yes, i was restless and nervous all night. i kept the bathroom door closed so i wouldn't hear it and by morning the hot water had created a sauna! xoxo

  9. Now we know what made your hair turn color: Worrying about the water all night!

Glorious photos, all, kj! The bird, the sand,,,all!
    Stella, Stella,,,,oh! You beautiful girl!
Those spots on her legs look to me to be what my Mille has. Post nasal drip. For real! Vet said that's all it is, not to be concerned,,,she just needs a tissue.

  15. Aww poor Stella. Lily loves the water. Poor you with all that water! Simply wouldn't do here, it would cost a fortune to have hot water running all night. Still, it's a beautiful place to be holed up, rain or shine. I'm sorry she gets all thingy about the rain, I wonder why? Lily doesn't care for Storms but rain's fine. Still crankly that I can't dangle my legs off the docks with you and Lolo

Stella is a beauty. I send her prayers of comfort and love.

    be well, suki

  17. babs, too funny about stella's spots. i never even noticed anything until lo did. i can't share my tissues though. it's enough that i carry baggies for stella :)

amanda, do you know of rescue remedy? it works for people too--just takes the edge off abit. our vet recommended it and stella seems to like it in the midst of thunder and rain. thank you for your very supportive comments, amanda. it is great to get to know you. xo

marianne! you are on your way to new york city! i was there a month or so ago. enjoy it all: it is a great city. and THEN!!!: come here!!!! honestly, i am so excited. how very very wonderful ♥

annie, vacation mode is yielding stella 3 or 4 walks a day and that is good for both of us. now that i know she doesn't mind the bay and the beach she can come with me there too. thank you for your well wishes, annie, i am so happy to be here. xo

wieneke, i just left a message on your blog. darn that you can't email me. i will keep in better touch. i don't want to lose you, my dear friend! ♥

joss, i won't say that it seems not totally right that you will not be here too. :( haha, i say i won't say it and i say it.)someday, joss. here or there. seeing marianne will be thrilling.

  18. hells, i hope the hot water doesn't cost me a fortune! what could i do at 1:30 in the morning?!
yes, your legs should also be dangling here. but take comfort in PARIS! can you believe it! by the way, i don't mean to brag, hells, but i think i was spot on about things coming together for you. and i mean in ALL areas, wink wink.
    xoxo

suki, what an interesting comment about the water. flowing is an apt word. thank you, suki. ♥

  19. Poor Stella. Our Nate hasn't been able to come back to his original self after all the surgeries, either. He's quite old, as well.

And poor you!! A little of the Rescue Remedy for you wouldn't have gone amiss. And that's how I would have dealt with the water running...close the door, quick! heh heh!

In a strange house, kj, when you don't know where a shut-off valve is for the water servicing the whole house, I think letting the water run is perfectly ok. It's not oil, after all...

That beach looks so inviting. Have a great day today, let the water tickle your toes...

  20. More glorious pictures.... how I love Stella.....love the photo of her "pawsies" in the sand, and the one of her classically beautiful profile. And....hey, love the "Spicy" hair colour....you and Jossie! It definitely enhances your "Wild" side.... it's there, KJB - we all know it!

I think all the walks along the water and in the sand will really be beneficial to Stella..she will gain confidence every time. Plus, it's wonderful "therapy" for you....

I can totally relste to the faucet problem.....I am completely lost without "C"'s expertise when these sort of things went awry... I am slowly learning....just found out how to turn the toilet off when a leak developed....!!!

Love to you and Stella....and only one more day until JB is back!

    Love, Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  21. That was some night, but glad it is over for you now. Stella is a doll, sorry about her weak leg, I know how it is, my boy can hardly get up anymore, old age is a bitch.
Sending you both love and hugs.
    xoxo

  22. marion, i wish i could say this is a strange house but we OWN this place and lived here for two plus years. :) why didn't i think to take some rescue remedy for myself?! thanks for your wishes, marion. tsup!

robin, i am loving my time alone with stella bella. i will have to adjust to JB and liz arriving! i rely on JB too much to fix things . and find things: see my most recent post!! ♥

annie, it's weird to see the effects of 'older.' i am taking steps to take care of my dear body now so it will keep up with me. and stella, i hope her multiple walks here will be good for her.

  23. Glorious!
that's the first word that came to mind and I think it says it all.

  25. Sometimes we wonder how we even make it until morning...seems like there's a few of us who know what havoc water can make! But nice to come out of it...and move on.

Sorry to hear Stella has had problems with her recuperation. Are you giving her anything to help with healing and pain? There are a few 'nutriceuticals that might help:
