For Annie: the New York Museum of Art on one June Day

.
.
.
.
This post is for Annie. If anyone else enjoys it, that is good and fine. But mostly I am happy to offer a glimpse of the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to my dear persistent gutsy always hopeful friend Annie. Okay already! Here it is, girlfriend!!
.
.
We'll start with Picasso's lithographs:
.
.

.
.
And we continue to this exhibit which I found inspirationally heartbreaking. My first true love was an African American woman and although I can never know the depth of slavery and oppression, I think I do know something about racism and prejudice.
.

forgive the poor quality of my picture taking, not to mention I snuck into the shot.
.
.

And on to Women & Photographs:
I apologize that I did a totally poor job of being able to attribute and credit the photographers. I should have used my Moleskine and not relied on my camera to connect one picture and one artist. So I won't even try. I will let these women speak for themselves:
.
.
.
.

Okay Annie. This is my best shot at an active act of friendship! I hope you've enjoyed.
Love
kj

  1. Yay!!! I am also the first comment!
I loved it all and some of the photos were emotional and moving, like the African American ones( loved that one and the fact that you snuck in HA!) and the girl with the black eyes.
I love that you did this for me dear friend, but also now I can quit bugging you about it :-).
    Love you.
    xoxo
P.S. I am sure many of your artist's friends will like this post.

  2. I liked your fillin post, i thought of that too, but i've been too lazy/busy for even that, heehee. But the poem was great, i feel like doing some of those things too.

Thanks for a bit of the Moma, i liked the photo of you in the reflection, it's hard to take photos in art galleries and museums!

You all had a wonderful time at Lolo's, I knew it! I thought of your get together and wondered how the day was going, did you make any art too?

I can't believe you forgot your camera!

    happy sunday!
    xoxo lori

  3. I love this! That you took the time to take pictures instead of filching them from the museum shots archive. I see you in one of the reflections KJ which is just perfect. It shows you were there. I don't mean that you just went though ... you know? You went, you were there, you acted ... like you were there. You shared.

  4. Enjoyed this - I've been known to sneak photos in art galleries. I like the one that looks like a falling ball of people parts. But what the hell with the kids in the first one??

  5. Ha! I snuck in with Annie and the others and LOVED this little visit to see Moma. What a wonderful friend you are, Twinkles, to do this for our sweet and beautiful Annie! And to share it with the rest of us.

    Love you.

  8. What a great post! I KNOW Annie loved it.... I am always interested in seeing Museums through other people's eyes....and seeing MOMA through yours has been a wonderful medley of different styles and periods of "Modern Art"....you did not disappoint!

I must (ahem) comment on the first one.... these two sillouttes seem to be "famous" in their own right.... the boy looks like either "Buster Brown" or the "Blue Boy".... and the girl resembles someone.... just can't figure out who? Does anyone have an idea?

I love the dancer.... what a powerful photo... and love the one that shows YOU taking a photo.

You made me feel that I was there with you.....what a treat!~

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh my dear god! you have to believe me that i NOT see what secret agent woman and lori see when i took this first photo and decided to include it in this post!!!!

okay, yes, it certainly looks x-rated! but honestly, this is part of a mural for children.

at least i THOUGHT it was.

    oh my...

    HAHAHAHA! i didn't know!

  10. Kj, I believe you because I did know the artist (Kara Walker), but I did not realize what the children were doing! Oh my!

  11. Lots of interesting images, especially that first photo ;)

I remember watching something on the tv last year about photographers documenting the great depression that photo of the mother and her children was amongst them, it's a powerful photograph*!*

  12. This may hep to explain that first image Yes it is what it looks like a young black female child giving oral sex to a young white male child.

  13. Okay, how dead am I that I didn't even notice the act in the first piece?
I love that Walking Man included a link. Thank you :)

The Picasso's are my favorite only because I was obsessed with him for a period. I did his portrait in four mediums: Oil, lino cut, aquatint etching and pencil. His oil portrait hands in my studio. Did you notice him? And his pencil portrait and aquating are on the shelf there. I should have pointed them out but we were busy!

I'm glad you did this for Annie. I'm wondering if I should post my RISD shots today?

    I'm mailing your camera soon...baboon!

  14. annie, you deserve to be the first comment! xoxo

lori, we made NO art. we just TALKED art. and lo showed us her print computer program which i loved and will now buy and try!

jos, hahaha! i never even thought of filching, and to tell you the truth, you just toaught me what filching means. so glad you liked all this. annie was right.

cs, i don't believe it!!! but scroll down and walking man will tell us the history. very interesting, actually. and i looked at looked at that mural--it was on a huge tall wall, and saw nothing until you did. xoxo

angela, tsup! i am behind in visiting and i have to come see you! be well dearest twinkles. xoxo

lori, anytime you post it's a celebration for me!

  15. pam, have you been to this one? and to the american craft museum? two of my favorite reasons for being in new york city. not counting the FOOD, ♥

robin, really, i did a pretty poor job of being a museum guide here for annie and friends. next time i will think through how to keep track of who did what. but you know what: it was fun snapping these shots, knowing i would share them with friends who welcomed the tag-along! xoxo (okay, okay, annie especially!)

bimbimbie, yes, i've seen that photo too. i've long thought the stark black and white photos from the great depression are as vivid as a great novel.

mark, tsup! tsup! thank you! we all needed to know and you've made it happen. you wouldn't believe how long i sat on a bench and looked at this 'children's' mural. duh! and i like to think i don't miss sexual/sensual messages!!!!
    thank you, mark. xo

lo, i didn't know you are a fan of picasso (yay, but too, wasn't he a very unlikable guy?)and i saw no hands in your studio--just yours! i'm glad you missed the mural madness and sadness too. xoxo

  16. Ha Ha Ha...I did not "see" what was happening in the first photo either, until it was pointed out. Oh! That is so funny...my inattention, I mean, is funny, not necessarily the photo. And I've seen that picture before and don't believe I noticed it then, either!!!

Looks like you had a wonderful time there and I love these photos, especially the one of you!!!!

  17. Hello, have I a different opinion since the world change, or rather from the technological point and his advances, since see tv that is something that I like and that I do in a very simple way, since? Here I leave my contribution them

  18. marion, i can't believe how EXPLICIT it all is. i took a photo of the entire mutual and i can't wait to go back and look closely now that i know!

david, take a long walk off a short pier, mr. spammer. :(

  19. Oh my God, KJ, I can't believe you didn't notice that! I laughed out loud at you're response to our comments. It's actually an appalling thing, isn't it? Both because they're children and because of the racism/power imbalance. Surely not something I'd want in my child's room!
