New York City: Big & Tall

.

.
.

.
This is a brief introduction to the BIGNESS of New York City. This is in and around Times Square, which is not the neighborly villages of Soho or Tribeca or Greenwich Village.
.
.

I'm starting with Times Square because that is where JB and I and our two good friends stayed. On the 39th floor. We walked six blocks to Broadway and cabbed eight blocks to the Modern Museum of Art. We took a carriage ride around Rockefeller Center and saw where Matt Lauer and Meredith Vierra work.
.
.

I have some stories to tell, including the unlikely romance of Ms. Tabasco and Mr. Ketchup, but that is for another day.
.
.

Today is just about BIG. (Oh, and I'm glad to be back. I missed us.)

  3. Fantastic photos kj

I've never been to the US let alone NYC.
That's one place I really want to visit. I've had friends from here live there for years on end and absolutely love it.

I think I would just like to be a visitor as opposed to a resident.

Hope you had a wonderful time.
    How could you not :)

    welcome back

  5. wrobin, hello cutiepatootie! okay, i've divided my NYC posts into: buildings, signs, MOMA, friends, and Ms Tabasco and Mr. Ketchup. the latter is steamy. ♥

annie, hello cutiepatootie2! i'm glad to be back. i missed my friends here. what an awesome city! i hadn't been in several years. it is just amazing. i saw the best play of my life, and that is saying something big for me

robyn, please come to the USA before i get too old because i would chase you down the streets of new york just to hug you! i would like to live in nyc for a year. for all it's larger than life images, the city is actually comprised of neighborhoods with neighborhood restaurants and flower shops and drugstores. and plenty of diversity ( i especially love that) and funk. ♥

  6. babs, TSUP! TSUP! i know how much you would love the city, babs. oh the museums! i saw picasso's lithographs and a series by women photographers. of course i'll be posting about it.

hey babs, i'm so glad you and yours are alright. you're in the ranks of people i worry about if there's worrying to be done. i'm glad about that. ♥

  8. Ah, there you are!! I was wondering where you got to kj! I'm not a fan big, polluted, noisy cities - always feel like a country mouse and relieved to get home again!

  9. Wow, one forgets how BIG NY is. I was there in 1960! I was young and in love with life and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I just walked around looking UP day after day. Such memories.

That huge hand is terrific. Don't guess it was there then! Thanks for sharing.

  10. Wow, you did get some fantastic shots to show BIGness!

You know how I feel about big cities though. If I never saw one again it would be too soon :P
I would just like to be transported to the inside of the wonderful museums and theaters but not have to deal with the congestion and pollution and noise and assaults of it all. Some people get high on it. I turn tail and run in the opposite direction.

Give me quiet nature. Babbling brooks. Crickets lulling me to sleep. Birds waking me up at 5 A.M. and a peacful walk with the dog at 6 A.M., undisturbed by anything or anyone.

BUT...I'm so glad you had a great time! I like it when you do things for yourself ;)

    xoxo
    lo♥

  11. I love the two hand sculptures. And I've always liked cities that have the contrast of old architecture against modern. I haven't been to NYC in many years.

  12. annie, :)

caroline, i'm a bit of a country girl myself, but i have to say i experienced no noise or pollution or crowding: just electric energy!
p.s. so glad you're back here.i've missed you. xoxo

lynn, to me the most amazing thing about this area of nyc is unexpectedly stumbling across a commercial shoot in times square or the nbc studios or harry connick jr. walking into his stage door. vibrant. i had missed that.
    xoxo

lo, funny thing is we walked to the theatre and from the meseums and to restaurants and it was all totally pleasant. knowing how fun you are to hang with, i actually think you and i and our cameras would have loved all (okay, most) of it. just sayin' :)

cs, i hadn't been in some time either, but i will go back again before too many more years pass. my first broadway play, but not my last!! xoxo

  15. I LOVE that picture you took looking down on the cab line - it could be a painting. :) I want to go, and I am not that far away, so why don't I? I will have to ponder this while I eat my cereal. ;) Welcome home! xo Pam

  16. Awesome photos, kj! In my mind, these tall buildings are quintessential NYC. You've managed to capture the power of the city.

I'm glad you had a great time! I'm not sure I would like it, since any large city makes me want to scurry back to the country. But I would like to go, just to see it and its energy and feel its power.

You sound rejuvenated by it all, dear kj, but I for one am glad you're back!

  17. Hi KJ I see you need to add photographer to your profile. I love the pictures. Nice to see, but I think, way too BIG for me. I come from a small town of 700 people. Looking forward to more about your NY trip. Hi to all your friends here.

  18. Holy Cow....I knew N.Y.C. was big.....but not THAT BIG!!!
Think I'll stay right here in the country and deal with trees, etc that are big....

  19. Been many years since I've been there and wow, so many people, so many cars, such big fingers everywhere. LOL. Thanks muchly for the big tour.

  20. Ah, KJ, you mean you DIDN'T visit Bergdorfs'!!! But, the MAGIC of NY, is that it IS what you want it to be. And let me tell you, it is cleaner and safer than many "big cities'.... San Francisco included. Having spent a lot of the past 12 years there.... let me tell you, it is a wonderful place....to experience art, to shop, to eat, to love.

    Eagerly awaiting the "spicy" tales!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  24. I forgot to say how much I love the taxi cabs, it's all so much fun in photos, but i'm like Lolo, citys are really not for me.
(but you know i'll be going anyway, soon)

  25. I had a great week in New York in the 70's. Even went to Elizabeth Arden for the day!

There is something about all that energy that is intoxicating. Did you bring any quarters home or did the big bad machines eat them all?

After a while, huge cities start closing in on me - but before that happens, they sure are fun.

    Love the pics.

  26. Wow Kj!!!!
I've only been to NYC once and I will never forget it and I want to GO back!!!!
    Love and much love~Pattee

  27. pam, if you go you will be two hours from me (wink). i must have taken 50 shots of those cabs from my 39th floor :)

marion, i was only there for one night so there was no time to gallivant in the neighborhoods. some of the city is obviously huge, but other parts feel snugly quaint and quiet. xoxo

hello dearest camille. i want everyone here to know that you are renee's sister. that gives you borrowed senior angel authority. thank you so much for staying in touch with me. together strong. ♥

anne, do you think i will ever achieve 84 comments in my lifetime? hee hee, you are a clever girl. tsup!

suki, i could walk around all day looking for giant anythings, and i think i would find plenty!

robin! i didn't have time to shop! not even a teeshirt. well, one postcard for lo. now i want to go back. i am going to try to take jess to see the play billy elliot.

barbara, coming from you, thanks for a high compliment. this is your city.... xoxo

  28. Angela, we left new york and headed for foxwoods casino, where we spent sat night and where i proceeded to (orgasmically) play the slot machines. the result involved empty pockets. :)

lori, i've missed you but come only when it's easy for you! i am plotting and planning with you. ooooh!

linda, i brought home not one damn quarter. i wasn't even teased sufficiently. oh well....i loved it all anyway. p.s. thanks to you my wheels are turning. i have ideas.... xoxo

pattee, i think new york and paris must be the same in that once there you can never forget them.
    xoxo
