Animal Wednesday: Emily Rabbit's Cousin Fiona

.
.
.
Hello Everyone, it's me, Emily. I almost didn't have time to write this week because my cousin Fiona came to visit. She arrived in the middle of the night with a big suitcase.
.
.
Fiona is the third daughter of my Uncle Bunny's brother-in-law Bernard T. Bunny. I only met her once before now, when she visited Bunnyville on her way to France. Anyway, I have not gotten the attention I usually deserve because Stella the Dog had an operation so I was glad to that Fiona's Mother sent her here before she headed to New York City to audition in a play called "Little Rabbits."
.
.
.
But she turned out to be not so much fun. It's not my fault because I tried!
.
"Fiona, let's go outside and steal some lettuce from the neighbor's garden."
.
"No," Fiona said, "We shouldn't take anything that doesn't belong to us."
.
"Then let's roll down some hills."
.
"No I don't want to get dirty."
.
"Then how about we throw some frozen peas at the garage window?"
.
Fiona crinkled her nose. "No thank you."
.
"Do you cry and whine, Fiona?"
.
'No. Why would I?"
.
.
That was the last straw. That's when I realized my cousin Fiona is not fun and I didn't feel guilty leaving her home while I went out to play.
.
.
But I didn't like it when I came back and she was too busy to even look up and say hello.
.
.
My cousin Fiona found someone who didn't mind staying inside and reading books with her. Can you believe it? They spent the rest of her vacation reading stories out loud, sharing cherry garcia ice cream, and enjoying the sun through the kitchen window.
.
.
.
.
Who the heck is Emily Plush??? kj said she is related to her friend Yoborobohobo but all I know is she was perfectly content to be boring with Fiona, who before she left invited Emily Plush to New York City to watch her audition for the play. Hmmmmmpf!
.
.
Actually I think it a shame that a relative of mine does not know how to throw frozen peas and doesn't have garden-stealing skills. When Emily Plush gets back from New York City, I am going to ask her to play and see what happens.
.
.
Can you imagine anyone not wanting to play?
.
.
I can't.
.
.
Yours truly
.
Emily Rabbit

  1. did someone say cherry garcia?

sorry emily about your cousin, perhaps you ought to just do all those playful (naughty) ((fun)) things you do so well and fiona may decide to join you after all (who doesn't want to throw peas)?!

i know a really nice fiona here in california, so it's possible.

    nighty nite!

  3. Mmmmm...cherry garcia...

    Dear Emily,
Fiona does look a little aloof. I think, over time, she will come to understand the benefit of throwing peas. Just wait until Emily Plush wants to read the same book as her, or Fiona tries to take her corner of the windowsill. There will be peas flying, I can assure you.

    Your pea-throwing friend,
    Pam

  4. Dear Emily,

I am sorry you have been through so much of late; not getting sufficient attention is a gaul upon one's soul. (I do definitely remember telling KJ to tell you *hello* from me.....but we must forgive her because she has had a patient to care for....)
    Well! Fiona.
    Hmmmmmm.
Here is one of the life lessons we have to learn, and usually it is around your age that we learn it:

Emily dear, my sweet little honey,
    delightful and boisterous,
    one heck of a bunny,
One day we find that others are different,
don't like the things we do and we question what they meant--
And then we're RELATED! (we have to be nice)
though we'd rather be filling their suitcase with mice! ;)
Here's the lesson--though odd and perhaps hard to ponder
No matter how near or how far we shall wander....
We all are different in most unique ways,
and it makes for the world having exciting days!
Sometimes the charms of others are hidden
    And smart little rabbits
    must puzzle to get in
to the heart of those we think we don't like
    and then maybe you'll see
    that Fiona is shy;
does not know your habits and cannot quite say so,
and feels a bit out of place as you play so.
    I think in the end,
things will all be okay, and the throwing of peas will be
    the top choice for play.
If Fiona won't thaw, then give me a call--
we'll roll down the hill, the garden we'll maul,
and throw peas at the windows till there's cracks in them all!

    Your Friend in Bunny Mischief,
    Anne

  5. I KNOW I can't top Anne's poem, Emily, I'm very poor at poetry but I thought it was so well done!

But anyway, I think your cousin looks very snooty and uppity. Are you sure you're cousins? You're so very different!

You must feel badly about Stella and maybe this might make you feel a little less hospitable than you might have been had you not felt a little tired by it all.

  6. My fwiend Emily,
There always seems to be at weast won "Black Wabbitt" in evwery Family... and, it's Fiona.

But, I think after she spends some time in the "Big Carrott", dodging taxis and transferring on the subway - plus auditioning for the diwector (I hear he's a WOLF!), she may weturn a changed Wabbit!
Then you can snicker when she asks if she can woll down a hill with you.

Pwease be nice to Stella....at least for a week....

    Wuv and Jellybeans,

    ♥ Wrobin ♥

  7. Emily, I am sorry your cousin was such a stick in the mud. Are you sure you are related? Anne's poem must have cheered you a little, but if not then go throw some peas and roll down some hills and be sure and kiss Stella, I know you don't want to kiss Stella, but do it anyway and kiss Kjb too. xoxo

  8. Aw, Em. Fiona is city folk.

What are you going to do with city folk?

You are are just too much rabbit for her to handle.

Throw all the green peas you want -after all, I only know ONE rabbit that can do that.

    Bunny Hugs,
    Linda

  10. lori, do you know cherry garcia? i used to know a classmate named nancy garcia but i'm sure she didn't have a relative named cherry. i think fiona is uptight. you might be right but i'm not sure.

mim, right! i agree. did you see how her nose sticks up in the air? i think that is a bad sign.

oh pam, emily plush fighting with fiona is exciting to think about!! what fun that will be! i had a feeling emily plush is no wallflower, but do you think she is interested in stealing carrots? it would be helpful to know...

    sincerely,
    e.r.

now i am looking forward to my own column because of your poems. kj says you rhyme really good words like 'different' and 'meant'.

i know you are telling me to be nice, anne accept my relatives and everyone else even if they are boring or snooty. but anne, don't you think she could have rolled down at least ONE hill? just because i am not flexible doesn't mean that other people shouldn't be, right?

    i laugh at your poems
    while i sit here alone
and i think you are funny
    and nice to this bunny.
if you want some hard peas
i will send them with ease
and you can throw them around
    even make a tall mound
    but don't let them melt
    until your whining is felt
    enough that you're ready
    to keep yourself steady.
    i know i can't rhyme
like you can, but this time
i want to say hee hee
to funny you from little me

    sincerely,
    emily

  13. I bet cousin Fiona never got to taste any of your jellybeans ;)

hope you are being nice to Stella and not throwing tantrums, she needs peace and quite and lots of petting*!*

  14. She surely isn't really related, Emily,,, I'll bet she was adopted!
It's her loss,,,she may come to realize it once you are rich and famous from all your jellie businesses.
Please give Stella a great big get well hug from me,,,and tell kj thanks again!

  15. marion, yes! fiona is snooty. plus she's called her parents ten times since she's been here. isn't that immature? i am trying to be nice to stella, but i have to watch where i hop outside because of she can't walk too far right now. you'd think she could put up a little sign for me, right?

wrobin, i am trying to be nice. i like what you said about fiona. i laughed about that wolf director. haha. emily plush whispered to me that she is getting bored reading shelly and shakespeare. i think emily plush might be more fun than it appears.

annie, rabbits cannot kiss dogs! i don't know why but i think that is a rule. but i am sharing the yogurt from the refrigerator.

linda, kj says if the peas break a window i will have to pay for it from my jellybean money. i think that is very unfair, don't you too?

dear unmitigated you, isn't that the truth!!! you are very smart.

marianne, you are the best friend. when you come bring your slippy slidey nightgown and we can sneak out and roll at night. plus i will save some frozen brussel sprouts for you too.

dear teri c, do you mean i am so darn cute? thank you if you do.

bimbimbie, i am NOT sharing anymore jellybeans with fiona. i gave her three and she complained about sugar. SUGAR! as if a little rabbit should even think about sugar. she is really prudie # 3.

babs, do you think i will be rich and famous? what do you think of coffee jellybeans? and chocolate jellybeans? i like all these suggestions. will i have to split the money?

anyway, everyone, i am trying to be nice to stella. i am kicking and whining outside for now. and i actually got her a cookie one time when kj went out for a while. i only hope stella will do the same for me when i need it. do you think she will?

    yours truly
    emily r.

  16. Ah Emily!
You did very well with your poetry! I am proud of you. The more you use words, the easier they come. The more you learn, well, the more you LEARN! But you are a smart bunny and know that.
Yes, Fiona *could* have tumbled down the hill AT LEAST ONCE (for politeness sake), but sometimes relation are just DIFFERENT and we have to take them as they come. There's naught to do. We all have our *Fionas*.
And I shall gladly accept any extra peas that you would share.
See, you offered your treasured frozen peas.
That is a gesture of goodness! :)

    XXOO!!
    Anne

  17. Fiona sounds like a bit of a kill joy, and she certainly appears as a bit of a snob. All serious and no play?! I cannot imagine. Perhaps Emily Plush was hypnotized by Fiona, and that's why she sat there listening to the book reading ad nauseam. She looks like she's in a trance - once freed of Fiona's spell, I bet you'll have a pea throwing companion!
I wish I could join you in a little pea throwing - perhaps some corn kernels as well, for a little color variety. though if I were to do that here I'm afraid it would make my neighbor rat family want to move closer...
I hope you're having a play filled, attention receiving day. just know - a little patience for the patient will help. xox Karin

  18. Don't you hate it when friends insist on behaving?

  19. Hmmm....I see some more "DWAMA" brewing between Emily and "Emily Plush"....partiularly when Fiona returns from the "Big Carrott"!

Perhaps a new weality show: "As the Wabbitt Wolls"....
