A Heart on the Cutting Board

.
.

.

I'm in search of hearts these days.
.
.

And as usual, I'm thinking.
.
.
.
When a heart "breaks", I have this image
.
of shards imploding and landing
.
all over the place.
.
.
And someone moving to and fro
.
trying to pick up the broken pieces.
.
.
And then hoping they fit back together again.
.
.
.
But what if hearts don't break like that?
.
.
.
What if they stretch when they break?
.
.
.
What if in time they heal
.
with new and extra protective skin?
.
.
.
What if there is more room for love
.
than there was before?
.
.
.
What if, when grief has its way
.
and time finds its rhythm,
.
.
.
What if you end up loving
.
more than ever?
.
.
.
Is this what's happening to me?
.
.
I like the sound of that.
.
.
Very much I like the sound of that.
.
.
.
of course,
to be continued....

  5. hahahaha fun pics on the side! i could have done the same thing today with the wind we had here(my tangled mess for hair). and i forgot to mention the fantastic photo up top! your blog is so full of life, i love it.

that's a very cool heart on the cutting board, well done.
i don't think hearts break, they deflate a little at times. and then like the grinchs they grow 3 sizes larger in a moment. which is why size sometimes matters. ;)

    hee hee,

  6. It is the scarred heart which is the strongest one.

  8. i remember once when my heart was broke, it felt like someone had wrenched it from my chest, ripped a corner off and shoved it back in so that all remained was a real and physical pain...
i learned that such damage does heal, with time and love <3

  9. KJ, you and I both know that hearts DO, INDEED, BREAK..... but, I prefer your second image.... the broken heart, though deeply scared, slowly heals, recovering strength and begins to seek out love again, in all forms which contain beauty, truth and light.

How delightful is that strawberry heart! You must keep that photo and use it as a header or sidebar shot. Speaking of.....LUV your new headshots - adorable!

    Thinking of you and Stella....

    Love, Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  11. I like the sound of that, too. In my mind, hearts are such very strong muscles - not brittle, not breakable, they stretch though, sometimes to the point of feeling torn, but tears mend, with beautiful stitches like quilts patches can make them stronger and more beautiful. Adding some lace, silk, satin - and of course, a little elastic to make room for even more growth and room for extra room for more love, which is coming your way... now!

  15. Yes! I so agree with you - hearts do expand if we allow them to! If we have the courage to allow them to - and it seems that you have! A beautiful image with beautiful words by a beautiful soul! Much love, Silke

  16. I love the berry heart, kj, and I love that you thought to do that! Your blog is so full of love, laughter and fun...even when you are healing from a broken heart.

And you are healing...the stretchy heart is a perfect visual. And, as Walking Man said, hearts become stronger after being scarred.

In your new photos on the side, you look exactly like a favourite aunt of mine...she was also full of light and laughter. Just like you!

  17. Hi KJ, the way I see it a heart can only break if has been open to love in the first place. We say break because that is how it feels in a way. But yes ... I prefer the stretching idea.

However hard, heart-break teaches us something. That living ... really living ... involves love, trust and risk taking. And so we must heal, or at least try.

Loving and being loved makes it worthwhile though. xx Jos

  19. strawberry feels forever. heh.
i would love to go with your stretchy theory. like a good lycra the heart bounces back. less likely to cut yourself on shards that way.
    xoxoxoxoxo

ps, whats weird is i took a pic just like this using carrots.
