The Official Blog of Blogland Lane!

Okay! Thanks to Debra Kay, Blogland Lane
now has a blog of its own:
.
Here's how it will work:
.
1. Send an email to Debra Kay at blogland.lane@sbcglobal.net. Send your email from whatever email account you want to use to access Blogland Lane.
.
2. You'll get an email back inviting you to be an author on the Blogland Lane blog, which means you will be able to either make your own posts there, or come in and set up links to your own blog.
.
This is step one. Let's see if it allows and encourages us to visit and share the way we hope.
.
For the time being, I will be responsible for the header and editing anything that may need editing (doubtful, but since this is a community where kindness rules, I''ll editing anything that obviously offends). I don't know if I am going to officially be the first mayor of Blogland Lane, but I do know that it's initially important for one person, or a few people, to set things up. So I''ll try my best to do that for the time being.
.
I am not proficient in setting this all up: thank God for Debra Kay--but maybe announcements and invitations can also be posted on the sidebar?
.
Last, I don't like rules, but here are a couple that seem important:
.
1. Our posts on our new blog should mostly be about Blogland Lane: connections, parties, events, renovations, support, recognitions, shops and services, silly ideas, etc. Of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't share something, anything, that you think is worth sharing. But let's try not to clog up our shared blog with posts that probably are better suited for our individual blogs.
.
2. We can only handle 100 "authors" on our new blog. That is a system limitation. Still, I'm not crazy about exclusion. Is everybody okay with at least initially limiting the neighborhood to 1oo? (I haven't officially counted, but I don't think we're close to the limit yet). This means we limit the amount of people who can actually post: not the amount of visitors or comments or even residents, for that matter. If this doesn't sit well with you, please say so.
.
3. How about reposting a picture of your place on our shared blog? I'll try to write up a list everyone who's moved in (within the next few days) (thank God I'm on vacation and have the time!) but the visual of everyone's house would be nice.
.
4. Kindness, courtesy, respect, diversity, fun, creativity, sharing, learning, and double fun ad double kindness. Let this be our constitution.
.
Okaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!
.

  2. KJ "I'm virtually moving in today along with my partner JB, my dog Stella, and I hope you'll join me there."

You didn't mention Emily, so I've asked her to move in with me. I'm taking an option on the lot at #66. There's nothing there at the moment but nature, but if Emily wants to share a space, we'll get rid of it and dig a hole (flooding considerations were why I chose a lot that is on a slight rise). If she doesn't, I might live in a tent for a time.

  3. kj thanks a bunch to both you and Debra Kay for the set-up!
So,,,, I'm off to see The Wizard Debra Kay and get official.

Oh, and about the rules and everything,,,??? I am more than A-OK with everything!
See me skipping off whistling and grinning?

  4. nollyposh, good work, girl! i've been over to your place and the twists and turns are magical. xo

snowbrush, well! i must say i am delighted you have moved to # 66 blogland lane. should i call before i stop by? and snowbrush, emily can NOT move in with you. her mother won't allow it. and she needs close supervision. and if you tell her she has to live in a hole holy hell will break loose. :)

babs, thanks for your enthusiasm and support. you are a terrific neighbor! xo

  5. Great! Will send my email to Debra.

I vote to let in as many residents that want to join, with the blog limited to the 100 rule. Those of us on the blog could always have a drawing, or contest, etc. to select another resident to take our place as a blog author if we'd like to share the fun later on.

Only one question: are you going to post all of our homes' photos? I doubt it, and believe you want us to post them again ourselves, but will there be a separate area on the blog where you want that to happen?

It goes without saying that this is probably a vacation you'll not soon forget...if ever! Thanks, Mayor.

  6. Kj - that's good news about the blog, thanks so much for arranging all this - I'll pop over to Debra to give her my email. I'm very OK with the 'rules' too and agree that whilst the blog by necessity must be limited to 100, residents could be many. Try to enjoy your holiday too!!

  7. It all sounds like pretty common sense to me, so I'm OK with what you're saying.
Now all I have to do is sent the email.
    Thx 4 facilitating!

  9. wahoo!!! sent my e mail, and i am happy with all the rules, want you for mayor and debra for deputy mayor, in that way we have two fantastically organised and great women to 'lead' us into our virtual community. i will try to re-post my house, but will have to change the number of my plot/address, could you please suggest a number(to 100) that hasn't been taken yet? Love ya and what you're doing!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ooops! I guess I forgot to go through proper channels when I built my cottage, and now I don't have an address!

I just saw that #13 was taken by Debra, so how about #7, or #51 or 52? (Maybe #52 would be the best, if it's still available, since that's how old I was when I finally found myself this year! Yay!)

I hope you're enjoying your vacation, dear friend!
    Hugs,
    Angela

  14. KJ "snowbrush, emily can NOT move in with you. her mother won't allow it."

WHAT!!! Emily told me she was 47! How was I supposed to know she was only 15? Besides, I wasn't being a lech; I was just asking a friend to be my housemate.

KJ "if you tell her she has to live in a hole holy hell will break loose."

She's a RABBIT! Tell her to get used to it. Besides, I would have furnished the hole very nicely with carrots paintings and so forth.

Like Chewy, I didn't know the neighborhood was platted (I did look), so I just chose a number that suited me, and wondered if anyone else already had it, and how I would know if they did.

  15. Yessss, okaaaaayyy !!! Very good and efficient action. I like it and I appreciate very much the efforts of Debra and you to make this all possible. Thanks thanks thanks, ladies. I just sent my emailaddress to Debra. BUT.... I have a problem. I wanted to make a comment to thank you on the special Blogland Lane website and it was not possible. I was not allowed to say something like I can do that on your blog, KJ. I click on NAME/URL and I can give my comment. I asked Debra to arrange something for me and maybe other residents who cannot comment now.

  16. Here I am again... I wanted to visit Nollyposh and there I had the same problem. I could not make my compliments in the reactionbox for that special Hobbithouse so I could cry a bit now :-((

  17. I sent my email and spent a little time surfing for an appropriate house today Found one, and I'll post it at both sites this weekend. (hint: it features palm trees and bamboo floors. Ahhh.... )

  18. I am on my way, the moving van is on it's way. I will be using blogland as a place to try out my dreams :-).

    ReplyDelete
  19. P.S. yes, all the rules are fine by me and I am more than happy to have you two be in charge :-).

  20. That's great! I have just checked the official blog. Congrats and keep up the good work!

  21. Oooh, how exciting!

Sorry I've not been around much this week but as you can imagine I've been busy like a crazy lady with prospective buyers coming to view our house here in RealWorld! Oh, it's a mad, mad world this selling property malarky! However, I think I can take a bit of a breather now because we've had an offer and the house is off the market while surveys are done. Hopefully, the Surveyor won't find anything untoward and contracts can be exchanged! If this happens, we'll have to start looking around for our teeny tiny cottage... HEY!...I've got my Blogland Lane house to move into. Yay!

    'See' you later.

    Lots of love,
    Tessa xx

  22. kj have no fear as I do not blame myself.

That book was done in 2006 and in response to a question on stresses that was my reply.

I don't feel in any way that I have brought on my cancer.

  25. Hey all-at 12:20 Central US time-I've set everyone up that has requested. Remember to give a little time for set ups and things like that-the only thing that isn't a manual process is blogger sending out the invite.

I am going to work up a FAQ document and figure out how to post it in a permanent spot on the Blog so that common questions can be addressed there. But since the questions are just starting, figuring out the common ones may take a little time.

Right now I will say, once you are logged into Blogland lane as an author, posting should resemble posting on your other blogs. I say SHOULD because there are some global settings that may be different for different people-and we'll have to work out a consensus on how to set that up.

Because this is a shared blog-I am really not sure what will happen if MY global setting conflicts with your global setting-but when that happens we'll see and then we'll figure out what to do about it.

It's very common when things are first set up for the entire thing to come crashing down a few times-don't dismay-it's all part of the fun and games. Blogger is a pretty reliable platform, but if you have something that you would just HATE to have lost, you might want to save it somewhere locally too (on your hard drive or back up).

Also, for those of you creating original art-remember blogger shrinks that down for publishing-so be sure to save a high resolution copy if you want to use it for other things. (Learn from my mistakes...)

  26. Hi Kj,

I will look into this later this week KJ!
    Seems like so much fun!
I am back from my holiday and as I am trying to catch up with everythinng I am getting more behind it seems, I get nervous of this....
Today I spent an useless day at Schiphol and did a training I already did before.....
I really must paint because I have to finish 2 pieces, one for a fiend who nearly has her birthday and after that one for a customer.....
I hope you will still reserve that plot for me!!!!

    Love
    >M<

  27. Glad to meet you, Madam Mayor. I'd like to move in and am off to email Debra straight away to ask her to show me around the available properties along Blogland Lane. This sounds like fun. I hope I won't be too late to attend Vicki's housewarming. Hope to be back here soon.

  28. Hi kj, I am letting you now with this comment that I entered bloglane happily, I was wondering wich one could be my house number? Could it be 1172? cause it is my birthdate kind of. If you tell me it is ok I will prepare my first post then. Take care M

  29. What a great idea this is! And I'm so happy with the synchronicity...I wrote a post describing parts of my dream home, and Snowbrush found it. So instead of manifesting my home in real life, I now have my ocean front home here on Blogland Lane. The Universe has a great sense of humour!

I am hopeful I can have lot# 268. It's one of the nicer oceanside lots, with many mature cedar, oak, and arbutus trees. And I love the cliff!

I found a list of taken lots yesterday, but can't seem to find it today...I'll also try and post, but Google is interfering a bit this morning.

At any rate, I am happy to meet you all, as my new neighbours. I've spoken with Debra, and I want to say thank you to you, KJ,and to Debra, too, for facilitating the building of a village.

Oh, and I can't forget to thank Snowbrush, who was the one who gave me the heads up!
