Hope Springs Eternal....

It's been some kind of winter here in the U. S. Northeast. Deep snow has covered the ground since November and it just keeps coming. However, my internal clock has begun to tick its way to Spring: I find myself thinking about planting seedlings and clearing my garden and maybe even re-landscaping the front yard. Not to mention hiring a couple of good guys to dig up and ready the soil in a few new areas of the yard, which I shall then plant to my heart's content.
.
JB and I have a third of an acre here, and it feels like more. I am approaching my gardening dreams a section at a time, and I'm in no rush. I'm beginning to think our "challenges" of the last few months might have finally settled down, and I'm headed back to paid work next week. Today is the FIRST day in 5 months that has felt manageable--nothing major, but nothing overwhelming either.
.
I've also been thinking alot about DUALITIES these days: why does one thing have to compete against another? If I win, do you have to lose? Is sadness really needed in order to know happiness? Why can't my heart have its way? Heavy thoughts. I can't help them, of course. But in a tribute to this, and then to that, I'm sharing the beauty that is around me whenever I just let myself see it.
.
Oh, by the way: I have a clear preference, and it's not snow....

And then, of course, the otherworld:

Is it possible I could just follow the path?

Love what I love,

And leave it at that?

  1. Dualities, isn't our life full of them? I seem to have to cope with dualities all the time in my profession. Not that I do anything important. I just contribute. And earn a buck, of course :-)
Hope your reentry in the job world goes smoothly!

  3. The photographs were a wonderful glimpse into your world KJ.

I cannot imagine deep snow from November to February, the thought of it makes me shiver. Those trees look amazing though!

The little flowers brought spring to mind and it is only around the corner.

I do think that we would never truly understand happiness etc. if it was a permanent state. I do not think it is one or the other though, life is so varied and so complex and to my way of thinking everything is for a reason. Maybe one day we shall find out, who knows :-D

I wish you well with your new job.

  4. The snow looks beautiful to me from waaaay over here and of course who wouldn't like flowers (even with hayfever)! Good luck with approaching life dreams a section at a time with a smile on your face, like in regards to your garden :)

  5. Spring is coming. I got home at 5:30 tonight and it was still light outside. That just made me smile. I can hardly wait!

  6. We must be on the same wavelength today-I indulged in a seed catalogue. I've got the backyard veggies already to seed, but there is much to be done with the front yard and side yards.

I love digging in the dirt, and I want to do a lot of it this spring.

  8. I feel it stirring ...

Your garden is a delight, whether under a foot of snow or blooming wildly! Love those iris! :) Soon, soon, my friend ... you will be digging dirt out from under your fingernails happily.

  10. You'll probably say it's easy for me to say this but I love snow, the look of snow, the feel of snow, even the bitter cold that stings my ears and makes my nose run. When I lived in New Jersey, my girlfriends and I would drive to Warinanco Park in Elmora and roll in the snow, wrestle, dig our boots in, throw snowballs at each other until we are soaked and our hands are stinging with frost. We drove back home shivering. One winter we took off our jackets and most of our clothes and rolled around like crazy women. Then we called in sick because we caught a head cold.

  11. What a beautiful post. The dualities of life indeed. May you always hold both in balance.
Sweet garden flowers. A motivation for me to do something about our scruffy excuse for one.
